I had WAY more hope in 1989 than I have now, and I’m not being dramatic.Ohhhh, contraire. I was excited that we were getting top draft picks and expected good times to follow. That's what happens when a team is on the bottom, you start getting some top shelf players that lead to contention.
The Cowboys had been declining since the mid 80s and had the worst record in the league in back to back seasons. There seemed to be no end to the futility. Nothing was worse than that. Not to mention the three straight 5-11 seasons under Campo. No it wasn't, it was one season. The current crap has been building up for decades up to this point and now we're hiring new coaches again. Anyone who thinks we'll go anywhere is a fool.
I agree. I just don't understand why The Dallas Cowboys administration doesn't see this. I mean they must see and listen to what's being said throughout the league about them.Probably. We are watching an ownership so smug and arrogant in their ways in how they run this team the past few years.
They've boasted about their "successes" and how they are around the rim. Made comments about other teams like the Rams and Eagles and cap, like either has felt the effects of signing outsiders and playoff success.
Jerry made comments about making coaching contracts incentive based, in the era where the NFL prints money faster than the federal reserve. Dallas being the #1 team in value and probably revenue too. But then gives his non franchise QB a QB resetting deal.
The team let MM play out his contract and then at the 11th hour tried to sign him to a deal.
Even in the past during the campo years or the 8-8 years with Garrett, I would at least play Madden being hopeful about the next year. This year I didn't even bother and I doubt next year I will either.
I have nothing nice to say about ownership so I won't write anything else
I hear ya my Cowboys brotherMy enthusiasm is also gone and if we hire Schottenheimer I might not watch a game this year. I'm tired of this.
Cowboys got lucky and found 2 topnotch problem players they got for a song, Haley and Casillas. Both were instrumental in the super bowls. They couldn’t have “bought” those teams.
They were a SB Champion in 92, free agency began in 93.
Yeah, I'm looking at 2028.No it wasn't, it was one season. The current crap has been building up for decades up to this point and now we're hiring new coaches again. Anyone who thinks we'll go anywhere is a fool.
It's amazing to me that people claim Jerry bought those teams. I mean, it's an easy google search to see that he did not.It even dropped down further in 93. Team salary was 23rd. People still think Jerry sat by with a blank check and bought those championships. It was the niners #1 in team salary and jimmy’s team still manhandled them! Niners are the reason Jerry fought for the cap and rightfully so.
It was sadly funny when they screamed about the 5 most important positions and DT was not amongst them. Neither was Center. They got Jerry to buy in, though, and he's been going after CB's ever since!!!!I don’t disagree, but it does probably have to start with a QB that’s in the top handful of the league….not one that “better be because I pay him that way.”
Yep, the interior DL was huge in that Cincy run, another position the football geniuses don’t value.
And they didn't buy those players in the early 90s who formed those champ teams. They couldn’t have “bought” those teams.
They were a SB Champion in 92, free agency began in 93.
This is what I expect, although Zimmer has made noises like he might not be back.I still believe the all time low will be IF we hear :
HC and play caller: Schotty
OC: Witten
DC: Zimmer
I’m die hard and questioned guys in my sports groups that said they were leaving their team. I couldn’t even fathom how that was remotely possible. Well it happened to me this season. They just broke me. I wanted belichick to lead this sh$t show me! Pete Carrol was fine. Hell I’d rather Deion than these other piss ants. Schottenheimer may lose me foreverBeen reading all the threads here and listening to constant ridicule on the media of Jethro and Team.
There doesn’t seem to be any optimism from anyone.
Even some of the diehard homers on this board have disappeared or changed their tune.
A lot of lifers here, do you consider this the lowest the fanbase has ever felt about the team?
I remember paper bags on head in Landry’s last year and Jimmy’s first year.
Fans were low after the Campo years until a rejuvenation shot of Parcells.
But is this the worst it’s ever been?
I don't think there is any argument that this current team isn't more talented than those teams. I firmly believe when healthy this team would cream any of those Campo teams, and I don't particularly like how this team is built even.I had less hope during these years, even though Parcells was here starting in 2003. Didn't matter, I had no hope in those teams that were put onto the field.
2005 Drew Bledsoe (16)
2004 Vinny Testaverde (15) / Drew Henson (1)
2003 Quincy Carter (16)
2002 Chad Hutchinson (9) / Quincy Carter (7)
2001 Quincy Carter (8) / Anthony Wright (3) / Ryan Leaf (3) / Clint Stoerner (2
As u get older it hurts less, for me at least.Been reading all the threads here and listening to constant ridicule on the media of Jethro and Team.

It just makes me sad because I remember what this franchise used to be.As u get older it hurts less, for me at least.
for me, in the grand scheme, I had less hope then than now, and we had Parcells then. the roster was putrid...I don't think there is any argument that this current team isn't more talented than those teams. I firmly believe when healthy this team would cream any of those Campo teams, and I don't particularly like how this team is built even.
The difference is at that point we were less than a decade from being a dynasty. We all follow other teams in other sports and for the most part every team, no matter the sport, has some down years and some rebuilds. It comes with long term fandom. And that's what those years felt like. If we could get some pieces in or get a Parcells at HC we could still probably get things turned around and back on track.
Now it is THREE decades since we have been relevant in the post-season. And Jerry is acting dumber and cheaper, and his son who is set to take over for the next 3 decades so far looks a whole lot worse. It is the amount of time we have been a league punch line, coupled with not having any hope in the foreseeable future that anything is going to materially get better with the Jones family in charge, I think what makes it so much worse.
In 1989 the team was hot garbage, but it was totally different. We had a new coach, new QB and we didn't know what an egomaniac nut job Jerry was yet. Now? We have 30 years of futility behind us and no end in sight. We're about to hire another puppet HC just so he can be a bridge to a high school coach. The QB is hardly a beacon of hope and is locked in for 4 years. We are being told the world's richest franchise doesn't have money for free agents.
So yeah, in the grand scheme of things, I really can't think of a worse time to be a fan of this team..
