Ellis' situation, or rather role is similar to that of Jim Jeffcoat's who left in 1995 and had been a situational player the previous two seasons after losing his starting position to Charles Haley and tony Tolbert.

In this case its DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer that have made the position over crowded and the 11 year vet that has twice had major leg surgery for both a torn ACL and a broken fibula expendable.

he shouldn't be worried about his family though, he's made at least 20 million dollars as a professional football player, assuming he hasn't spent money like a drunken sailor and has invested wisely then he's set for life.

How many on this board have 20 million plus in hte bank? Probably not many if any.

PS, just watched Ellis help keep the team in that '06 Philly game on NFL network - yah know, forced fumble for a TD. Don't recall too many Bobby C highlights over the past 3 years.....
Don't recall saying Carpenter had any highlights....

A play Ellis made 3 seasons ago is relevant now?

Ellis is an average player at this point, if not slightly above average. He's benefitted the last few years from having a phenomenal pass rusher drawing all the attention from him. Having to use him as our primary guy (if Ware got hurt) would show just how average he is. And that he's about to be history in Dallas pretty much cements that, as does him winding up some place like Cincy after he's gone.
