I know I'm in the extreme minority, but I wish there was a way to keep Ellis for 1 more season as a role player.

If he'd take the role, I would like to keep him too and I can't stand him. But he won't do it without his usual malingering, so there's no point to it. Plus, there is the obvious money issue.

Does anybody really want to keep Ellis around for one more year at the expense of losing Brandon Williams or Stephen Hodge?

The OTAs resume today and Greg Ellis has been told he cannot attend. To me that signals that he will be released for sure. The question is when? I would stop delaying the inevitable and get it over with this week before this round of OTAs ends. I see nothing positive from hanging on unless there really are trade discussions ongoing. We haven't heard anything on that but speculation.

Personally I am ready to move on. I don't need somethign back in a trade to be satisfied. The cap room generated alone will satisfy me.

There is no way we would keep 5 OLBs on the 53 man roster given we have a 2nd kicker and a 3rd QB. That would mean either Victor Butler or Branden Williams would end up being waived and tried to sneak onto the Practice Squad where we could lose them to any team without compensation.

Frankly, at this point Greg is in the way. He is the last piece of the locker room lawyers from 2008. I wonder if he likes the way this smells. He may not, but I do.

Drop the hammer Jerry. Some will wail that we get nothing for him, but for the overall good of the team it needs to happen.

LOL Hos

Pretty good right there.

I know that keeps getting mentioned but I don't think its inevitable we would lose Brandon Williams or Victor Butler. We could simply end up going lighter in an area like the secondary, where we are stressing players who can play both CB and S or carry one less receiver. It would be tough to do it and also deal with the inevitable spot eaten up by a kickoff specialist, but it could be done. I am more concerned about Ellis being here and keeping us from evaluating either appropriately versus the roster numbers game.

Couldn't we cut someone far less important/productive than Greg to accomplish that?

You mean like Bobby Carpenter?

Give that man a silver dollar. Or course, we wouldn't save the same amount of $, but I think that's a bogus issue anyway. Greg's a whiner, but he can still play, and does not present a TO-like threat to the team. What if Ware sprains an MCL or worse next year? You really want to rely on Spencer and a bunch of question marks?

I agree with what you're saying. Many here agree.

But if Greg started that stuff up again, he made a mistake. That's just not going to be tolerated anymore. Not now anyway. I agree it wasn't in the same vein as TO's stuff. But it's the wrong message to send from either direction now.

They had no choice but to stop it. Besides it will definitely open up a roster spot for a rusher.

...I believe in cutting Greg Ellis is that management is actively working on Ware's contract. Ellis is worth more off the roster than on in regards to his cap amount and resigning Ware soon.

My information says that it's guaranteed only for injury (ie., if he got hurt last year). If we cut him, he doesn't get it.

Naaa. It's guaranteed. The DMN just reported that the Cowboys don't have to pay it if he makes that much elsewere, but if he doesn't, they have to pay the difference.

I believe this was part of the renegotiated portion of the contract way back when he first started whinning about the insurance policy or something..

I'm guessing that, when it comes to the cap, that situation ( the 1.5 cap hit ) is something similar to when a player gets suspended in that the figure counts against the cap initially and then the team gets the credit back for the amount that it's not used..

Hostile, i ran across this buddy;
Greg Ellis-LB- Cowboys May. 26 - 1:52 pm et

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed Tuesday that Greg Ellis has permission to seek a trade.

"It's likely Greg will play somewhere else next year," Jones acknowledged. Jones did indicate that he's in no rush to release Ellis as he lets the lifetime Cowboy talk to teams he'd want to play for. Ellis could fit as a rotational 4-3 defensive end in Cincinnati, Jacksonville, St. Louis, or Washington.

If Adam says its not guaranteed except for injury then that's probably so. I hope this says as much for Butler and Williams as it does not for Greg.

doubt it, for some reason I think he got something over Jerry.
The other option is that the team doesn't share the fans views of his abilities. I know that sounds too wild to be considered since the fans are always 100% right about a player. I mean, just look at Bradie James.
