He mustve slapped jen on the butt or something. I cant believe they would just fire him.
My guess...and this is only a guess...is that he got feed up with some of the agendas over there and got into it with the Galloway / Hansen faction. Steve always struck me as too level headed to be tied into that group anyway. I hope he gets a better gig to replace it even though he is not out of work by any means with his Bluestar and CBS 11 gigs.

I will wrongly speculate here and say that Dennis was the leak on the T.O. fines... Jerry finds out and now he's a goner... he never seemed to be the sharpest tool in the shed, especially with some of his press conference questions or better yet how he answered a question for Parcells' during a conference when Bill was about to talk about trading players...

I can't really see that. He is just another reporter himself so why would he have the info about the fines? And Jerry doesn't own and the Cowboys aren't affiliated with 103.3...if he did I'm sure Galloway and Hansen would be gone. And as far as I know Steve still has his gig with Jerry's little network.

I finally tuned in to the Ticket today to see what all the fuss was about. All I heard was some guy dressed as a Catholic school girl racing another guy dressed as a baby. This garbage is superior to ESPN? Very disappointing.
to be fair, if you listen to The Ticket on some random day, you won't "get it". It takes a good couple days to understand their jokes, bits, etc.

I think Steve got tired of Galloway calling him "Radio Boy". He went postal and they fired him. Plus, during training camp, Steve was absent from the show plenty of times. (Out golfing)

It is quite possible that he got fired because of the ratings.Maybe they thought he was the weak link, and that she would do better on her own.Maybe they thought of firing her too,but galloway saved her job.She has always been a favorite of his,and there is no doubt she kisses his *** majorly.

well said... im as huge a cowboys fan as their is, but when there isnt anything "new" to talk about, they don't beat you down with the same conversations they've had everyday for the last 3 weeks, ala, Dennis & Engle......

When things like this happen, there are usually two reasons...ratings and dollars. It is common practice in radio for formats to change overnight or personalities to disappear without even a mention of it. (Ask anyone that used to work at "The Eagle" if they saw that whole thing coming?)

With the release of the latest Arbitron book, it's clear the show is struggling in the ratings. By not being competitive in the 25-54 demographic, this usually results in stations having to discount their advertising fees from their standard rate card. Keep in mind that KESN has had to pay both Jen and Steve while probably generating less ad revenue.

I believe the station basically "rebranded" the show to center around Jen and at the same time, cut their "talent" costs roughly in half. The fact that there was no mention of Dennis leaving isn't at all uncommon in the radio business.

The only straight up Cowboys talk that I see anywhere on either station is Mickey Spagnola when he does the Ranch Report segments on the Ticket. That is where you get the best and most straight forward talk about the team. If JJT had a regular segment that would be good; he has really stepped up his game this year.

Of the radio shows that I hear; Bob and Dan on the Ticket are the best. They will be having the Drew Bledsoe segments and they have the most rational takes of any of them. I would switch over to ESPN during 'the Hardline' but I think that is when Galloway is on and I refuse to listen to that tool.

Luckily I have some other interest besides the Cowboys (baseball is NOT among them). Besides I usually know more about the team than the guys on the radio just from hanging out here. So I don't mind that they try other subjects.

I think the only show on the ticket, at least at the time I listened to it on a regular basis last year, that talked sports more than it goofed off was Norm.

Now his voice is annoying and he slobbers when he gets excited but at least he talked sports more than stupid gay jokes or disguised racial jokes.

:hammer: It certainly wasn't something like Dennis quitting in protest over some anti-T.O. agenda (oh, brother) or anything like that.

AND BTW, Norm is great. I don't include Norm in Ticket criticism because he's done his thing in DFW radio since long before the Ticket was even created.

I know there are a lot of folks who don't like Norm, but I think his show is clearly superior to the others at KTCK. With that said, there are many listeners and P1s who don't tune in to the Ticket for sports talk at all. They enjoy the bits, jokes, fake Jerrys, and so forth.

As long as the sales department can still sell ads, usually nothing changes.

Of course she does. She use to be great, mostly positive, backed the team and owner. Until Galloway molded her to hate everything Dallas.

As for Dennis, I posted earlier, and stand behind it. He was not going to be part of The HATE Team and their agenda. So they fired him. He said on the air he wonders if everything really is ok in Dallas camp and they just aren't sitting behind closed doors laughing at the media, and are being played by BP, JJ & TO. Then it seemed he was gone a few days later.

I do agree that Norm keeps it to sports and you don't get the fluff and bits of the other shows. I like his show but sometimes it gets to be a beating when there are no real sports to be discussed. But Norm would not sound right talking anything BUT sports. I usually catch about 30 to 45 minutes of his show each day and frankly that is quite enough unless he is talking Cowboys.

No, but they will commit 1 hour to silly segments by their comedian sidekicks ignoring sportstalk altogether or force you to sit through 30 minutes of them playing music from their bands or their buddies bands.

I listen Mike and Mike int he mornings and they do a quite good job.

I just heard a small portion of the morning show today, but Steve Dennis was not on the air today (he was the day before) and Jennifer Engel was referring to the show as "The Little Ball of Hate" show. I just checked out their website and there is no mention of Dennis anymore as it appears Engel is flying solo now with help from some of her crew members. I didn't really like Dennis, but if they were going to get rid of him, they should have gotten rid of Engel too. I know their ratings stink and that's when changes are made, but if they want to try and compete in the slightest with the Ticket, why don't they actually go out and hire some talented people who are good broadcasters unlike most of the people who currently work at that station.

My 2 cents on the matter is that JJT or maybe Clarence Hill should have gotten either Engel or Dennis' spot when they formed the new show. JJT is just opininated enough and also informative enough that I thought that would have been better. Dennis was/is just a moron and just never knew what he was talking about most of the time and was always being corrected. Engel just seems to be extremely aggressive and negative (I have my own theory on that but I will keep it to myself).

As far as competing with the Ticket, I have been listening to the Ticket since it was created in the 90s but I really only like Norm and occasionally the Hardline when they are talking baseball.

I wish Norm Hitges would move to ESPN Radio.

Nothing PMO more then when there is a ton of Cowboys news going on and on the drive on home Ticket is talking about "Community Quick Hits" or some other non-sports nonsense.

Steve,

What happened to your ESPN 103.3 gig?

I was surprised to see they have turned the show from a somewhat
balanced view of things to the completely one sided, anti Cowboy lead
of Galloway and those yahoo's.

Anyway, I'll still catch you on the TV with 11.

Just wondering what happened.

Thanks,
Jay
