Here are my thoughts.

Who says Connor is going to fight like a Boxer?

I personally believe Connor has no thoughts of boxing with Floyd and he is going to go into this fight with the mind of a MMA Striker that is handicapped by the rules.

Even though it is a boxing match I don't think he is going to participate in that style of striking.

He will stand like a MMA Striker and he will throw like a MMA striker.

I think he will be calm, cool, and calculated like he always is and punch like a MMA Fighter (which he does at the highest of levels) and not a boxer.

Even worse.

Connor going into "striking pose/mode"... Floyd has excellent vision.

I don't see Connor "striking"him much.

Yeah I'm not sure who is still paying for boxing matches and ppv anymore.
Boxing was good before UFC became a thing but then it became a snooze fest by comparison since. The fighters are terrible the sport is terrible to watch and it's more dangerous than mma.
Who's watching boxing period?
PPV buys are a fairly poor way to look at numbers. I gave those out based upon request but reality is you have to have the sport seen to build a new younger stable of stars.
Mayweather and Paq were in our lexicon for over a decade. People saw them and knew them BEFORE MMA.
But now you see MMA on TV at least once a week for free. More slots for young guys to break into our consciousness.
While Boxing has gone the other way. Young guys on regional fight cards draw no interest anymore. It's at a 50 year low.

If Boxing is the NFL then MMA is like SEC

Floyd Maymeather is the Patriots...best of the best.......great defensive mind with a strong punch as well
McGregor is LSU, not even Alabama.... loyal rabid fanbase but not quite realistic

You think they are playing the same sport but if NE played LSU it would be 100-0
Eh, kinda.
Floyd is the best boxer of this generation, perhaps by a lot.
But Conor isn't Alabama. He;s in an entirely DIFFERENT sport.
It's like the Patriots versus the Warriors playing touch football.
Patriots would be huge favorites but Warriors with height and athleticism are going to present some weird challenges.

Conor grew up boxing. He moved into MMA but he's trained Boxing his entire life. He'll NEVER outbox Mayweather but he has a far better idea of whats coming than Mayweather.
In pushing and shoving exchanges expect Conor to be far stronger. Expect Conor to have the far better gas tank and be able to take a whole lot more punishment.

Conor's fight plan is basically take a beating til the 40+ year old slows down enough to hit with hard shots.

I saw Ali at 40+. It wasn't Ali anymore. Will Mayweather be Mayweather forever?

Agree, but why is boxing still bringing in huge purses?

It's the remnants of a dated cycle.
Showtime is losing big money on boxing.
Cable doesn't pay for it anymore at all.
But they've got the PPV thing down and those handful of fighters blessed enough to be PPV stars get paid insane dollars.

The issue has never been with the biggest stars for Boxing. The issue is finding the next set of them.

I first saw Mike Tyson fight on a Saturday afternoon on ABC. He had no walk out music and entered the ring in all black trucks, 15 dollar boxing shoes and a towel with a hole as his 'shirt'.
I instantly knew I'd be watching every fight of his I could.

Yup.

And the fact that they charge $50 to $100 ppv.
You only need 10,000 to 15,000 buys to hit a million dollars.

Boxing has some up and coming stars too that are being put on regular tv recently

Better gas tank? You cant be serious, Mayweathers stamina is legendary, Conor will be breathing from his mouth before Mayweather does

no way Connor can hang with Floyd in a boxing match and your analogy is way off

Half of MMA is standing and striking and it resembles boxing the closest but it isn't boxing
Just like college football isn't the NFL..... it is barley the same game

GGG, Canelo, Andre Ward, Joshua at Heavy are pretty big but Boxing needs more Wide World of Sports fights on ABC Saturday afternoons to get more eyeballs on the sport

MMA has almost zero mainstream stars after McGregor but it found it's niche with it's loyal base

If you believe this you are wrong.
Mayweather is a 40 year old who fights 3 minute rounds.
Conor is a 28 year old who fights 5 minute rounds in a sport where you can use every part of your body as a weapon and can tackle each other.

I've seen boxers wrestle. They literally wilt.

40 year old housewives take up boxing for workouts.
Throwing your arms and taking steps is a decent workout.
Only insane people wrestle. Nothing is more grueling.

I've heard of the first 3. Not Joshua.
Canelo was beaten by Mayweather and is a red headed Mexican dude.
GGG is a foreign cat.
Andre Ward is well over 30. He's averaging like 150K PPV buys in his last 5 fights and his last two wins were marred by drama and controversy.

MMA-wise that's patently false. Ronda Rousey is a bigger star than any male boxer not named Mayweather.
She retired (at least for now like Mayweather) but there's plenty of well known entities like the Diaz brothers and Jon Jones and Anderson Silva.
Some of the Brazilian guys are less known because they can't speak the language.
MMA has a continued pipeline to get these guys seen. Fox and Fox Sports 1 have fights regularly.
Spike has fights regularly.
Other channels routinely show smaller orgs.

Again MMA has some issues to work out but where they have a massive edge is in small-time promotions succeeding and in the style fitting the American public.

I've lost a lot of interest in both recently to be honest but I'm far more likely to watch free MMA than free Boxing.
And again, I'm someone who watched Ali and Tyson, not to mention Sugar Ray, Hagler, Hearns, Foreman, Holyfield, Duran and many others.

The trends have been going toward MMA for a long time. Outside Mayweather and Pac there's little star power and those guys are basically done.

Lol 40 yr old housewives arent fighting 12 3 minute rounds. Amateurs dont even do that, and there is a huge difference in throwing ur arms and taking steps and boxing. Clinching in boxing also takes a lot out of u.

And wasnt Conors first fight against Diaz, he was gassed in the 2nd round, lol. Thats only 3 rds in boxing lol, Mayweather can go a whole 12 rnds and not look tired
