We traded up to draft this guy, then stuck him in the cover who defense. Only the Cowboys......

Yeah, how much is Mo and how much is this bend-don't-break defense? Not saying he has played well, but he seems like a man corner stuck in a zone D that somehow we decided to change to.

It varies from time to time, and the jury is still out, but as of this minute it isn't looking like Mo was worth the trade up. Thoughts?

Frankly right now he doesn’t look worth the second round pick we spend let alone the first and second.

He was terribly overrated coming into the draft. I never cared about all that "best defensive player in the draft" nonsense.

Furthermore, he's a stinking CB. You don't waste that high of a draft pick on CBs - especially not when you need better line play to begin with.

Well the good news is if anyone has a bobby carpenter jersey in the closet take it out and have a 24 sewn into it.

My suspicion is he will one day be good or even great but it's clearly going to take time. That in and of itself is enough to say the trade up wasn't worth it. You don't give up high rounders for a guy who needs on the job training.

So, yes, mistake, unless proven otherwise quickly.

One interception in 19 games. Too many "business decisions" when it's time to step up and make a tackle for me to count. I have three thoughts on this:

1. He's just not very good.
2. Corner should not be a premium position in today's NFL since corners can't impact the game the way they used to.
3. Corner is even less of a premium position in the Tampa 2 defense.

Add it up, and yes, this has all the early signs of being a total bust of a draft pick.

The question is would you want claiborne for a 1st and 2nd or jenkins for a 2nd.

I think you are jumping the gun. It hasn't been 3 years and he has been hurt.

Mike Jenkins was way better than Mo in his second year. Heck, Mike Jenkins is probably better than Mo this year too.

I still do not quite get why we had to get rid of Mike Jenkins in 2012. He was our best corner from 2009-2012 and we just signed Brandon Carr before 2012 draft. We were 8-8 too (not too horrible). Jerry went out and spend two high picks on an unproven rookie and literally kicked out the best player in the same position in the team.

It's hard to say. They had him as the #1 defensive player in the draft and only gave up a 2nd rounder for him.

I just think the issue we have here is that we need to stop drafting 'cover corners' that can't tackle and are fragile. A lot of them are terrible in zone coverage and the league has changed its offenses so there is a lot of short passes requiring DB's to tackle well and they throw a lot of slants which requires some physicality to defend.

I like Mo if the opposing team is trying to beat him deep, but they don't have to do that.

Two high draft choices of the recent past, ( a 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder), were bencehd for poor play yesterday. Both these players were suppose to be cornerstones of this team's success, both played badly and were benched.

I'll agree he is getting burnt but not all good corners start off hot. I'll also agree he is a man cover corner playing the Tampa2. I'll also say he wasn't worth the trade up then nor now in my opinion. Jerry was getting people to fit the RR scheme and now it looks as if he development is stalled due to him having to learn another scheme in his second year.

He isn't the sharpest tool in the shed so give him some slack to learn what to do when. It took Dez quite some time and it will probably take Mo some time but he has all the talent necessary to become a good corner.

No CB is worth trading up for into the top ten in any NFL draft. Now he is a man without a position in this defense.

Nevertheless, its done and the Cowboys are stuck with him.

Every time SD faced a 3rd down yesterday, I said to my Dad who was watching with me, "Rivers just has to hit the guy being covered by Claiborne and its a sure first down." More often than not, that's what he did.

I'll be honest, Last year or any other year a loss like yesterday would have enraged me. Yesterday, or the loss to the Chiefs, it doesnt even bother me. Don't know if its getting older, or if Jones and his sad sack of losers have sucked the interest out of me. The Cowboys were beaten from pillar to post yesterday by a mediocre team. That 2nd half was shameful, but honestly not surprising given the same group of guys that continue to come up short year after year after year.

I still think Claiborne will turn out to be a good player for someone, perhaps not in Dallas.

But it speaks to the foolishness of repeatedly putting this much of your resources into your DBs. The key to the NFL is the passing game, and attacking the QB. With a mediocre or poor pass rush, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and yesterday, Phillip Rivers, will pick you apart, and it doesn't matter how many great DBs you have.

Pass rush is a necessity. Great cover guys are a luxury. In spite of years of making the same personnel mistakes over and over again, the Cowboys keep piling $$$ and draft picks into the secondary instead of building a great DL.

Looks like a 3rd round cb so far. He is below average and I hope that changes by years end but I see no progress in him.

Don't know why anyone was excited about this pick, he didnt even look like a top 10 player on film and corner was not a necessity.
