I have no issues with the fans saying the boys still have a shot. Fans should absolutely maintain hope. This is the NFL and things are constantly changing. That said, I think this message board invites more comments from the ‘realists’ when there are so many that claim the competition is ‘lucky’, or ‘mediocre’. People that watch the NFL with an objective eye know better. Those sort of comments rub logical people the wrong way because they, well, lack logic.

I guess it depends on the specific posts. I don't think, for example, it was unreasonable for people to want to see the Eagles beat a good team like they did last night before confirming they look like an actual contender. Now that they've done that, they earn the validation that comes with it.

Separately, to be clear, I'm not feeling hopeful. I just know NFL seasons are long and they're never settled after just five games. I'm not "hoping." I'm just letting the season play out. If we don't fall apart completely, it'll be late Nov before we really know what the playoff hunt looks like and where Dallas stands.

Tats not what I'm arguing. People in hindsight are talking about how much better the eagles did during the offseason than we did. But it's all reactionary. Just trying to keep people honest.

Actually, I think a lot of people talked about what an effective offseason, at least in terms of veteran acquisitions, the Eagles had. Only a fool would think adding Jeffrey, Smith, Jernigan and then later Darby wasn't better than Paea, Carroll and Moore. The debate seemed to be around the notion that even in adding those guys, they still were behind us and we shouldn't worry about them.

Well, at least for 6 games, those that said they did a better job this offseason are looking pretty accurate. And it shouldn't surprise anyone if they are honest about the players both teams added.

I'm doing the exact opposite of whining.

No, that's exactly what your e doing. Some people can give credit where's credit is due and others are blinded by fandom. Your blinded by fandom. The Eagles at a better team right now. Accept that.

That's probably be the thread OP and all the people agreeing with him that the sky isn't falling.... It's fallen.

If you want to put in the effort to make the case that this team will not only catch the Eagles in the win column, but beat them head to head, have at it.

But we need something more than "it could happen" based on fan hopes and dreams.

I am not sure what people expected when you blow up your secondary and add rookies. I will say this, I like the potential of the rookies. It was either add the rookies or sign FA that may not be here long term. The defense will better as the season goes on. If somehow we can get in as a wild card, we might make some noise.

The rookies aren't the problem with this defense. In fact, one of them has been a savior thus far. That's what's most alarming. If it was simply rookie growing pains, that would be one thing. But this is a much bigger failure than that.

Still not enough "data" for you?

Can we get a d coordinator that can actually adapt his defense to what a team is doing, instead of the same schemes game after game.

With the possibility of further retirements, suspensions, and injuries Im not sure one could make a great case for improvement, other then rookie improvement. Certainly when they decide to get Heath out of there that might do it all on its own.

Yeah, this whole, "hey, we should have expected the defense to scuffle with the new secondary" argument loses it's steam when your rookie S in Woods is probably playing better than your vet in Heath, your rookie Lewis is probably playing better than your vet Scandrick (and note, I don't have an issue with Scandrick, I like him) and the bum you just cut.

The problems run much deeper than the "growing pains" of new secondary players.

It starts with the DC. Until we rectify that, it's just going to be deja vu around here year after year with this defense.

While I don't disagree with making a change there, I still think it would be yet another bandaid.

They swapped out every position in the organization save for the head coach, and the results continue to be disappointing. Time to make that big admission and make the big change. Otherwise, I think it's rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

When was last time we had good back-to-back seasons? Parcel's last season and Wade's first season. One good regular season ends with a playoff loss, then things got out-of-control in the regular season.Complacency.

In this league, success is very hard to inherit between seasons. Everyone has to grind out all the time to win.

I see the complete opposite.

What Fandom have I been blinded by? Did I say the Cowboys are better than the Eagles? Where?

I'm hoping that they get both Heath and Jaylon Smith off the field after this bye week. And put Butler in over Williams as the 2nd receiver as well. Sticking with the plan isn't working.

You came into this thread crying and whining because people were giving the Eagles the credit they deserve and have earned thus far. Some people can handle that truth, and some can't.

All these people praising the eagles... How many of you had them at 5-1? None?

OK. Shut up.

Revisionist history.

I know because I was there.
