" ripped to hell ", " rediculous low body fat ", " as fast as some linebackers ", " just 21 years old " (when drafted), " room to grow "

4th round draft pick, current back up.

If beach bodies mattered, the NFL would be in SoBe (FL ) and Venice Beach ( CA), and just about every LA Fitness center around the country looking for O-linemen.

Let's no be silly...campbells tape showed a mid rd work in progress

Smiths tape shows a promising mid to late 1st rounder

Is this Bruce Campbell?

Barely anybody said the guy was a good blocker. Once the offseason started, tons of fans and draft guys alike soured on Campbell because he simply wasn't a good football player.

Different story with Smith. I don't see anyone anywhere questioning his actual play on the field. Comparing him to Campbell because they're similarly built is about as fair as comparing Heyward Bey and Desean Jackson

I also seem to remember that Bruce Campbell did not even rate as a first team ACC player.

Some people think that if you look and do well at the combine it just means you are a weekend warrior.

IF a player is already pretty respectable prior to the combine and goes to the combine and does great...that is a good thing. It is a bonus to the tape of the actually play of the player.

It is much different then the case of Bruce who could not even rate as a first team player in his own conference.

The comparisons on that are pretty silly.

wasn't there serious interest in this guy from Jerry and the scouts before this whole process even started? Back in October/November?

I remember reading on the zone that cowboys scouts attended multiple USC games.

You are correct sir! He came into the draft last season with "all world" potential, but only marginal results on the field.

And when huys like Chris Johnson, Bob Sanders, and Vernon Davis blow it up its not something to ignore either.

We have this debate every year. Yea, you look at the film and if the film on a player is good and he runs .5 seconds faster then a guy you also like maybe pay attention to that

Campbell's tape was awful.

Just as posting pictures of Smith's " ripped to hell " body means absolutely NOTHING when it comes to playing football. Smith has gone from virtually a no-name a few months ago for this year's draft ( possible candidate for 2012 draft ), to all of the sudden a top 10 pick without playing a down since December. If Campbell is not a fair comparison, and it isn't on a football level but it certainly is on a physique leve, then Mike Mamula is. We all know how that turned out.

In other words, beware of the look great in shorts, workout warriors, who shoot up the ladder during the underwear olympics. If Smith was a top 10 talent material, his name would have been all over the place even if he hadn't declare.

You got a good point , especially when it comes to linemen. I really can`t recall any "ripped" linemen being that great.

First, lots of people don't post his picture as justification for their interest. Just cause one person puts a picture as proof doesn't mean the rest of us are the same way.

Second, his name has already been over the draft board. And has been for quite some time. It's not like he's all of a sudden going to shoot up to being a 1st rounder after the combine. He's been considered a first rounder all along.

I understand being wary of workout warriors. I completely agree. But sometimes, you have be wary of being wary as well. You can't talk yourself out of a good football player because other teams have been burned in the past by drafting poor football players.

I looked up some pics of this guy...he's ripped and looks like TO with his shirt off. How is this guy a lineman?!?! I've NEVER seen a lineman this ripped and skinny. Does he even have a gut at 307?

You went through all the work to go to google and search for images..and the name you decided to plug in was Tyron Smith? ;)

All this talk about ripped and what not makes me think some of you guys need a girlfriend.

Totally poor comparison.

The only reason his body type is relevant to me is because I wonder if he's able to retain the weight he's put on.

He's proven to be able to play his position and yet has room to grow.

Unlike Campbell.

Unlike Mamula.

I love it when people assume that because a guy isn't talked about on the 45 year old virgin in his mother's basement draft dork internet website community then it must mean the NFL scouting community doesn't know about him.

Which is why it's always hilarious when the draft happens and people who only follow the 45 year old virgin in his mother's basement draft dork internet website community freak out "What?? He wasn't supposed to go until the 2nd round, at the earliest !!!", when in fact he went exactly where he was supposed to go given Goose's Top 100 based on his access to NFL teams.

What makes T Smith so interesting at 9 is his versatility to play RT and LT (down the road). In case Free were to get injured (hopefully that never happens), in a couple years Smith could help out at that spot if it was necessary.

While I like Carimi, he's strictly a RT from what I can make out.

That extra versatility that Smith has is worth quite a bit of money.

It's is amazing how some people almost seemingly consider it a liability that Tyron Smith, or any tackle prospect, could play left tackle and right tackle.

People have theese inflexible archetypes of what a certain player absolutely has to look like (a lot of these people are the ones who still can't get over the fact that Ratliff is a great nosetackle). If right tackle is typically a 360 lbs. fat slob, it's not because that position mandates you have to have a slow footed fat slob to be effective, it's that most teams can't find one tackle with great athleticism and feet, much less two.

As to what his body looks like and how it supposedly transfers to the NFL ... list all the players with that kind of body, and we'll look at the sample size. Bruce Campbell? To me, he reminds me a whole lot of D'Brickshaw Ferguson. I really fail to see how lacking 30 lbs. of mid-section flubber and man boobs hurts a player's ability to get out of his stance, set his feet and bend at the knees ... quite the opposite.
