Hey, I get all this but......let's take Alex Smith of KC. He was also a bus driver, took care of the ball most of the time but could never get it done. Then Mahomes comes in and look at what they have done since.

Dak's career is not over. I am not saying he cannot get it done. I am saying that many a good qb has not made it to the dance during their career. I do know that you have to be consistent and cannot be throwing pics in the 4th quarter of a playoff game and expect to come out a winner. You might be able to do that in a regular season game but not a playoff contest. What am I trying to say? If Dak gets us a crown, it will be because he came through in the clutch, not because he screwed the pooch in the clutch. We will see if he learned anything from last year. I am rooting for the man and my team.

I am not anti Dak, I am pro-Cowboys and always will be.
You make very valid points, but I will just add a couple things to this:

1. Mahomes is a once in a generation type player. Maybe a one in two or three generations. He could have gone to any team and they'd be as good as the Chiefs are now.

2. Dak is better than Alex Smith ever was at any point in Smith's career. In many ways it's not even close (in my opinion).

Well, speaking of bus drivers, I think that some QBs like Joe Flacco were bus drivers and won a title.

Dak Prescott improves under McCarthy's tutelage

If you think about this one there's one thing that really stands out about McCarthy taking over play calling in Dallas and it's that this will be the first time Dak Prescott is learning a new offense, in this case, the offense being the Texas Coast offense and terminology since coming to Dallas. Kellen Moore learned under Jason Garrett and Scott Linehan and used what he learned to develop an office similar to theirs and used a lot of their terminology as well. So this is a new experience will be new for Prescott, but not for McCarthy who has been able to develop quarterbacks during his time in the NFL.

That experience and hands-on work with Prescott are going to do wonders for Prescott's ability to grasp the new offense. It also sounds like Prescott will be given more input into how the offense is run with McCarthy saying that he's asked Prescott what he likes and doesn't like in the playbook and to get rid of what he isn't comfortable with. You can believe that he will want less tight window throws and getting himself out on the move more will boost his confidence tenfold.

Before San Francisco again is referenced, do some actual thinking with a real discussion here:

In the time that it's taken Kyle Shanahan to turn this team into a powerhouse he's had to switch defensive coordinators twice. First, it was Robert Saleh who left to coach the Jets and now DeMeco Ryans who left for the Texans. You would think that Shanahan has caught another break with the team hiring Steve Wilks as their new defensive coordinator and for good reason, everywhere he goes the defense gets better.

Well, not this time around, this time things finally catch up to the 49ers. Saleh and Ryans were young coordinators that infused new ideas and concepts into their play calling which helped their defenses succeed, Wilks on the other hand likes to run a different scheme than Salah and Ryans did. His predecessors utilized a wide-9 defensive front whereas Wilks prefers a 4-2-5 with three cornerbacks and two safeties in the secondary with his defensive line in more of a normal formation. Given the personnel that they have things could work out for the 49ers' defense but it's more likely than not that they take a step back as Wilks implements the scheme, he's more comfortable with.

CowboysZone ULTIMATE Fan
Here’s a universal truth I believe- Fans will believe whatever they want or choose to believe regardless of any facts or ideas that differ from their views. Remember- the root of the word “fan” is “fanatic“.

Opinions on whoever the QB is in Dallas has ALWAYS been polarizing. Even Roger had critics despite his taking the Cowboys to 7 NFC championship games and 4 SBs over a decade…it was never enough. Troy to this day is seen by many as being “lucky” to have been surrounded by great players. The QB seems to be the only position in Dallas where winning is never enough.

The QB position has always been where most fans pin wins and losses. To many, winning and losing is not a team game but a pin the tail on the donkey game. And the donkey is always the QB.

That is part of a team. Prescott deserves respect for what he did get accomplished. Not an escape for what the team made mistakes and complicated all performances at risk also.

Hince Tony Romo (UDFA the odds are astronomical) Dak Prescott (4th round flyer with high enough odds) getting bashed for not being Troy Aikman (1st overall pick still high odds but much better than the 2 mentioned before) .. if some cant see how lucky we got with Tony/Dak then your right there are no amount of facts that can change anything because the fact they both started and played well at QB for mulitple seasons was ground breaking in itself.

The phrase was Roger the 'dodger.' When's he going to stop and chunk the ball? :starspin:

To discuss first implies a base level for a reasonable exchange. Not just an excuse to vent on another fan that presents something that puts at question the insult directed for personal satisfaction towards another fan.

That still amounts to an insult and disrespect, even in sports. Parent fights at children's sporting events is way to frequent...much less an acceptable level of mass shootings today. That's for a reason also.

Recommendation, don't get judged in a Russian court.

Don't mention Quincy Carter who ended up on marijuana and in Texas on a semi-pro team...before any legalities changed.

Yes but he's been unlucky: poor OC's, no weapons and injuries. Also he has been excellent!!!! in the regular season....if only there was a way of determining why the difference., I wonder if QBR (when compared to Rating may give us a clue).
If he needs all that to be a Super Bowl quarterback, then what's so special about him? And more to the point of this thread, why would we be taking him for granted? I mean, if he needs a great OC, top-notch weapons and luck, can't we put any old bumpkin behind center and achieve the same thing?
I wouldn't consider myself a Dak hater, but I think he's an average-to-good quarterback. I think we're going to get only so much out of him. The difference, as you say, is the talent we assemble around him. But that's not the type quarterback you worry about taking for granted.

we did get very lucky with both. As frustrating as both at times can be. Having both of them behind center has been a plus for dallas

Nothing will change the minds of the anti-Dak crowd because they have their minds made up as to who he is. If he has one bad season out of eight, he is the one bad season guy. If he throws for 355 yards, 3 TD's, and a pick six, they will point to the pick six and ignore everything he did right.

And heaven forbid he listens to advice from other QB's like he did this offseason. It's funny that if we hear Micah Parsons is taking pointers from DeMarcus Ware, we get excited that Micah is trying to get better and add more tricks to his bag.

But if Dak does the same, it's because he's a dumb rube that doesn't know what he's doing after eight years in the league.

The goalpost keeps getting moved so long as it fits the narrative. Dak is who he is. A QB in the 7-12 range among the 32 starters. Which means he's good enough to win a championship. That's all I really have to say.
according to the pundits, after 8 years you have to know everything and be Elite. there is nothing else to learn. in the meantime, Brady had throwing coaches every off season. that's what made him Brady. he never stopped learning.
