The March trade for Cooks gives the Cowboys a perfect fit to fill out a pass-catching corps that struggled to find consistency opposite CeeDee Lamb in 2022.

Cooks' speed brings a needed field-stretching element that was missing from Dallas' passing attack. Despite getting up in age, with his 30th birthday on tap in September, Cooks generates separation with the quickness to burn DBs deep and the toughness to get off press coverage. His ability to play on the outside gives Dallas more options to move Lamb around the formation (particularly into the slot, where he thrives).

Last season, with Michael Gallup still making his way back from injury, Dak Prescott lacked a viable second option, forcing him to target Lamb on seemingly every key play. The addition of Cooks provides immediate relief. Cooks' deep speed should also open up intermediate and underneath routes where Lamb can see less compressed windows in 2023.

Despite playing with lesser QBs during the past two years in Houston, Cooks proved he can still create separation. Now he joins Prescott in Dallas. The clear upgrade portends a bounce-back campaign for the veteran receiver.

He won't be the go-to target in Dallas' passing attack -- that's still Lamb -- but Cooks' deep acumen will help open up the field and provide plenty of opportunities for splash plays that were lacking last year.

I am not advocating the same old strategy. what we know is teams evaluate players and they make decisions based on those draft evaluations. we know they are mostly wrong about QBs. history tells us that. so if Levis was deemed a good QB and was there at 26, then we should have picked him. that's the long term outlook. but if he wasn't deemed a good QB, I say don't pick him for the sake of satisfying the pundits and picking a QB. it most probably will fail. Andy Reid was sold on Mahomes. Mahomes was deemed a risk out of college and probably a mid to late first round pick based on evaluations at the time. Andy was sold, made the trade and got his QB. so if we make moves, we better be damn sure. and hope it works out. others made similar type of trades. thought they were sure and it didn't work out.

so this past year, at 26, was Levis going to be the future and were we sold on him? vs. Mazi Smith and how he could help the team this year. I think Levis had a lot of question marks. history will tell if Titans were right or not.
Dak worked, why cant it again, especially with McClay's involvement. Looking at Purdy and Hurts this year there's still that train of thought that the rookie QB has more chance to succeed in a good roster (but you'll dismiss that argument as you always do). ;)

Hince Tony Romo (UDFA the odds are astronomical) Dak Prescott (4th round flyer with high enough odds) getting bashed for not being Troy Aikman (1st overall pick still high odds but much better than the 2 mentioned before) .. if some cant see how lucky we got with Tony/Dak then your right there are no amount of facts that can change anything because the fact they both started and played well at QB for mulitple seasons was ground breaking in itself.
How did we "get lucky"? Neither QB has ever gotten past the divisional round. Did we "get lucky" with Danny White who achieved far more than either Romo or Dak in the playoffs? Of course not. Demand excellence or you will just keep perpetuating the curse of mediocrity.

according to the pundits, after 8 years you have to know everything and be Elite. there is nothing else to learn. in the meantime, Brady had throwing coaches every off season. that's what made him Brady. he never stopped learning.
Wait, what?

When it was posted that Dak had a QB coach he got dogpiled for being an idiot who shouldn’t need coaching.

Despite the fact that Mahomes has two of them, one of whom he just has on his personal payroll.

This was labeled the 7th best new QB to WR pairing of this off season.

These teams are awaiting Super Bowls...

The common thread between these teams is the presence of an established star quarterback in the prime of his career. Joe Burrow has already been to a Super Bowl with the Bengals -- and was close to winning it. Josh Allen has led the Bills to the playoffs the past four seasons, playing eight postseason games along the way. The Chargers' Justin Herbert has only one playoff appearance to his name, but he's recorded more pass yards than Burrow and Allen since 2020.

Cincinatti Bengals

Burrow might be on the verge of a contract extension this offseason, which actually could shorten his and the Bengals' Super Bowl window, depending on the terms of the deal. Can Cincinnati keep his two hombres, Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase, around long enough once Burrow begins to chew up a bigger slice of the salary-cap pie than he did on his rookie deal? That's the biggest worry with such an extension. But this is a young, talented Bengals roster with few glaring, obvious holes as of now. Burrow is an MVP candidate who has gone toe-to-toe against some of the league's best, winning three road playoff games over his past two seasons. The pieces are there for the Bengals to end their title drought in the next few years.

Buffalo Bills

On the flip side, the Bills are one of the oldest NFL rosters currently, surrounding their young standouts with experience on both sides of the ball. With the signing of Leonard Floyd, the Bills now have a whopping 17 players age 30 or older, and Stefon Diggs will turn 30 during the season. They've played in eight playoff games the past four years, with each of those runs ending in painful or shocking fashion. A lot now falls on Allen and Diggs, as well as Von Miller and a defense with no coordinator, to end a title dry spell that has been ongoing since the 1965 AFL Championship. But even with Miller's ACL injury clouding his early availability, and even with a thorny schedule ahead, the roster around those stars in Buffalo could be good enough for a Super Bowl run.

San Diego Chargers

The Chargers are in the same area code, talent-wise, as the Bengals and Bills -- they just don't have the recent success to buttress their argument as Super Bowl contenders. Herbert has done virtually everything asked of him to date, and some of the Chargers' failures can be blamed on injuries. But there will be pressure to get it done sooner rather than later. They have the talent; they just need to stay relatively healthy and put it all together. In the AFC West, that's tough. And as with Burrow and the Bengals, the Chargers could sign Herbert to an extension this summer, locking up their star QB for the long term, though theoretically limiting their ability to further bolster the roster. Head coach Brandon Staley was brought back for another season, but anything short of a healthy playoff run this year could potentially cause the team to go looking for a new head coach.

Now exactly, without pulling up with a dump truck full of manure for the yard, does Dallas fall into a similar picture of competitive now? This very general same status.

The ungrateful fans would not be ungrateful if there were something tangible. It's up to Dak to turn that around.

But I'll talk about him if or when I want. If he knew me, he would talk about me...I don't pamper anyone.

but then again we complain why Dak isn't elite. now we want to replace him with just another good QB. what gives? Purdy is not elite. Hurts is not Elite. they are just in the right team, with the right surronding, righ system, right owners. instead we are stuck with Jethro and his idiot son.

Oh if you folowed the Cowboys you'd know we got lucky. They tried to trade Paxton Lynch and draft Connor Cook. Jerry wanted Manziel...and before Romo? Hutchinson, Henson, Carter, Leaf, Stoerner, Wright, Vinny, Bledsoe.....and we were a Sean Payton taking Romo with him to New Orleans away from not even having him. So yeah we were lucky.

Thanks for identifying yourself as a hater. But we already knew that. I’m glad you’re upset Along with the rest of the haters.
Can't get enough Sugar Crisps to keep me going strong...

Just for the coming insulters...those three teams, just above, were from the AFC. Dallas is grouped with San Francisco, Philadelphia, and itself in the NFC.

This was the posting that set the above posting up for real discussion purposes.

1. The Eagles struggle under new management

2. The 49ers D crumbles without Demeco Ryans

3. Dak Prescott improves under McCarthy's tutelage

4. Sam Williams breaks out in year two.

5. The Cowboys pry Derrick Henry away from the Titans

https://thelandryhat.com/posts/5-dream-scenarios-boost-cowboys-2023-super-bowl-odds/5

Each of which have been discussed via postings on various threads, before now.

It is a sharp read in entirety.

If I could, I'd learn how to play classical Spanish Flamingo music on a guitar!

I can play that kind of music, flamenco, played it for about 12 years. But not many really know the history or soul searching and the timing of their music from Spain. Here in at home I cannot attract an audience.

I went to music school for four years after service. I have been playing guitar and music as much as I can.

I have a blues band called "The Bad Influence Garage Band". I posted one of my original tune here and the Reality got mad at me and told me to never ever post one of my tunes on any forum or I will be banned for life.

Where words fail, music speaks.
