Raw physical ability isn't everything, but just to give you a glimpse into this TE class

Athleticism score from Combine (40, Jumps, Shuttles, Cone, bench)

Zack Kuntz...94
Darnell Washington...91
Sam LoPorta...86
Luke Musgrave...86
Will Mallory...84
Luke Schoonmaker...84
Additional Guys here...yes loaded class
Peyton Hendershot...72
Michael Mayer...71
Dalton Schultz...69
Jake Ferguson...68
Dalton Kincaid didn't test

Hendershot and Ferguson are solid, but may not have physical tools to ever become big time. My hunch is the Cowboys will be eye-balling tight end within top four rounds

I've head Washington mentioned on a Cowboys podcast as a possible target.

If the value is there for a TE in the middle rounds I’m all for it.

I just think it is important that while we recognize he potentially could be better than Schultz,
What do NFL vets say about rookies? .......Prove it
Yes I know he won't be a rookie but until he proves it........it's just talk

Ferg started 7 games last season and still only had 19 catches for the entire year..........

He flashed whenever he had the ball in his hands last year. Turned dumpoffs into big plays. He’s a YAC threat at the TE position.

Travis Kelce was asked about TE’s that remind him of himself back in Feb. He singled out Jake Ferguson as a guy he’s excited to watch in the future.

TE isn’t a need.
You might want to tap the brakes on Ferguson until we see more. He’s a long way from Travis Kelce at the moment. He had 19 catches last season for just under 200 yards and 2 TDs. He did show some flashes and has potential, but the jury is still out. The Cowboys did offer Dalton Schultz a three-year $36M deal which he turned down so they’re not ready to turn over the reins to Ferguson or Peyton Hendershot.

I don't disagree. That's why I prefer to sign a vet or draft another TE within the first three rounds. We don't have anyone who is proven right now. Of course, getting another rookie still won't accomplish that, but it at least gives us more shots at one stepping up.

Let's hope so. But I don't like to count my chickens before all the eggs hatch.

My pet cat.....lots of fans/media are down his receiving ability but I think the kid can be right there with the elite IF given the opportunity. Check out his stats vs Kincaid. Notice he's only one full season but look at his average yards per catch vs Kincaid. Not to mention I heard more than once he's like having a 5th OLineman on the field. 6'7, 265lbs.......who stopping that in the red zone.

No, I wouldn't use 26 but 58? I'm running the card up

I'm excited about him too. Doesn't mean that I don't believe we should sign a veteran just in case, though. Going from being the second TE with very few opportunities to the main TE with lots of opportunities is a gigantic step and we can't be absolutely sure Ferguson can make it. I like that we have a second guy in Hendershot who also showed potential, but I'm hoping we either add a vet or a third TE to the mix within the first three rounds. After beefing up our receivers by adding Cooks, it would be a shame to have TE be less of a weapon that it was.
I do not understand some of you. So you do know that you draft guys to take over and be the man, right? You normally dont expect it to happen as rookies, unless you spent a top 2rd pick on a player. Do you not understand why they franchised Schultz LAST year and let him walk this year? So you are shocked that Schultz, as a rookie in the first half of the season, when given a chance to get snaps due to Schultz injury, didnt produce 8 catches for 115 a game during that span? You dont let Schutz walk only to go sign another Vet that you HOPE can play better than Ferguson. Face it, its Ferguson and Pendershot's chance to shine this year. They are either going to do it or stink it up, but we arent adding a TE to play over EITHER one of those 2 guys.

Darnell is a unicorn in several ways. Makes it hard to assess. Could be a monster NFL player. Reminds me a bit of Martellus Bennett, which is I'm sure unfair to him.

He is a solid player, but I dont think they are going to roll with him as the number 1 TE.

All signs point to TE at 26.............I am not really thrilled with taking a TE in the first round, but lots of scouts seem to think this year's crop is one of the best in a long while.

Two names I keep hearing is Kincaid from Utah or Washington from Georgia.

This is what I love about this board, we are either all in and dream the impossible dreams or all out and call them out for doing nothing right except for maybe drafting.

I don't think the general public understands TEs take a couple years to really develop into something, with some obvious exceptions.
JF will progress this year, and likely be productive.

This is supposed to be a strong TE draft, so don’t be surprised if that’s the Cowboys first pick.

Lol, he made a couple of plays where they schemed him open disguising him as a blocker. In the 3 games Schultz was out or left early and he was the primary TE he had 7 rec for 60 yards. His ceiling is blocking TE who’ll get 350 yards receiving every couple of years!
If he gets more than that will you agree to let the mods ban you for life?
