"Jane you ignorant slut"... a line from a SNL skit in the 70's. It crossed my mind when I read Slater's twitter post about Irving. I'm sure he has been trying to keep this information private. I think he should have respected that privacy.
I actually think she's a good reporter. If you don't want your name in the news then do the right things......

Disagree. None of us are perfect but we still deserve our privacy. This is a private matter so the press should butt out.

Oh lort. Why do I get the feeling Irving was abusing "purple drank"?

Soon we'll find out he's a distant cousin to Ro McClain and it'll all make sense.

Super talented(potential) player who derails promising career due to some off the field ****.

He’s a professional athlete who couldn’t show up for the start of camp. He doesn’t warrant a ton of privacy at that point.

The "professional" organization that owns this athletes contract seems to disagree considering how silent they have been on the matter. It's not that he "couldn't show up". He has been excused my the team to take care personal business. That's not at all as you characterize it, "couldn't show up". If you want to argue a point then get your facts right.

Players make what they do because of fans and the spotlight. Problem is you dont get to pick and choose when the spotlight is on. This matter while private in nature, has a large effect on the public matter of his football career.

Im sure he was "excused" by the team because there was no better option? I mean what the hell else are they going to do? It sounds as if the team tried to help him all offseason. Unfortunately he didnt take the help and now he will miss camp and serve a suspension.

That's an entitled opinion I disagree with. You don't deserve every detail of a sports celebrity's life.

Now you are just guessing. The team did have other options. The team chooses to excuse his absence because it was the humane thing to do, not because they had to.

Nobody said "every detail," just the details that keep them from doing thier VERY public job.

What was the other option? Release him and take the hit?

Ahhhhh....it seems like just a few months ago that a lot of us who expressed concerns over some of his tendencies were told “it’s no big deal, he’s just a kid, we’ve all done it. Who cares what he does in his private life or says on twitter?”

This is EXACTLY why some of us care and the writing has been on the wall for years, literally. The people who are surprised are probably the same ones who coddled and defended him by minimizing and trivializing his bone headedness.

Long over due to send him out to pasture, another failed Jerry experiment. I wonder if Jerry knows he owns a football team, not a half way house.

Fine, cut, slander, ridicule, disrespect... all options the team avoided because they are a compassionate organization that realizes it is dealing with human beings. Some things are more important that this game, this business. We are talking about David Irvings survival and quality of life. Something tells me you don't have any clue about any of that.

Guys as dumb as Irving should have no expectation of privacy anymore. I'm forever dumbfounded over trying to understand the actions stupid athletes make. Its career suicide.

Maybe he should stay in rehab for awhile and the NFL should leave him alone and give him a chance to turn it around? Just a thought.

Smells like 10 game suspension may be coming soon.

But did he fail a drug test? I'm not sure he could get suspended otherwise. Another question would be if it could be a rehab for emotional/mental issues? Is that a thing?
