Janoris Jenkins talks Cowboys on Ben & Skin

You can never go wrong with a Dez thread in the offseason. But honestly, Dez wasn't the reason they lost in the Divisional round. I just can't find the energy to get up for a debate about him.

That loss has killed my Cowboy joy.

The narrative of Romo's career: "If we just get him X, he'll be a Super Bowl quarterback."

Hope springs eternal in the minds of ardent Romo fans.
Like a legitimate GM, a viable head coach, and a defense that can rush the passer?

I don't think it's hope. I think it's a fact of reality.

Somehow I think if Parcells didn't leave after his fourth year, Romo's story would be different.

Fans who aren't sheep? Fans who have an opinion on who the better player is/will be?

If that is what disgusts you, then it seems the type of fan who is disgusting is you.
You're not smart enough to understand locker room dynamics. Go away

Talk about a failed article. But to be fair. Jenkins has expanded his game greatly since SL. They were basing this on his performance there.

My guess is that Dez will get wind of this interview and will at some point burn Jenkins a few times. he got dominated last year though.

He was hurt last year as well....to be fair about it...

Sounds to me like Dez might be the problem

I would hope Romo would be harder to confuse then a rookie. Ben and Skin are Romo marks. Go to YouTube and watch the 4 quarter of the 2007 playoff vs Spagnola:Romo was totally unglued

The Giants didn't confuse anybody in the first game. The Cowboys went up and down the field on them. The Cowboys settled for FG. Some credit to the Giants. A lot to do with opening day not fully in sync

A better comparison to ask(especially since it looks like Dak is the Cowboys guy) would've been how would you compare him to Carson Wentz? Since you seen them both twice.(JJ)

But hey, how does he compare to a 14 year veteran. I guess
Go back to 2007? Gotta go that far? Cherry pick your stats much? Romo has been fantastic against NY in his career. Don't prop up Dak at Romo's expense.

Romo is the only reason guys like Dez, Miles Austin, Laurent Robinson, etc. got paid. Even TO had his best year under Romo.

And on Dak: it's a very risky move letting Romo walk right now. QB’s come into the league with no tape on them, a simple offense to protect them, and a green light to just take off when they feel uncomfortable. They do well for a time, but as d coords get tape they find things to expose like RGIII couldn’t run to his left and throw they started blitzing him from the right flushing him left he looked like dog sht… Won the division his first year disappeared after that. Kapernick couldn’t read a defense to save his life stop the run stop his whole game. 2 good seasons with harbaugh, started to fall off in the second but his team carried him. These were top tier guys the franchise were banking on to pan out, the nfl is different if you can’t get better and change the way you play you’ll get exposed. Not saying it will happen to Dak, but every coord in the league is going to watch the giants tape and mimic it until he proves he can beat it. What if he falls apart?

Boys be screwed then. Boys drafting dak and falling heads over heels in love with him, sitting and then chasing romo out of town might be the biggest blessing in disguise for the rest of the league. How fitting would that be for this franchise over the last 2 decades, we finally build romo a borderline nfl team, just to run him out and replace him with a mediocre qb.

Well I would agree with all, but Dez. After he got healthy and he earned Dak's trust, or Dak learned to just throw it up Dez was putting up some solid numbers. What's even better thought is that Dez treats these guys likes vets and buys into what they are selling. He seems to be a great teammate and all he cares about is winning. Big change in Dez, it almost seems like Dak and Zeke seem to balance him out. Sometimes surrounding yourself with the right people can make all the difference in the world. I think Dak will challenge Dez to be even better at his craft, and he will do it in an encouraging way.

Dez threads only get life when they are negative.

There's a new Jedi in town...and his name is Dak

Let any of you tell it, Dez is a grown man that continuously makes wrong decisions and can only run 3 routes on a route tree...smh @ some of you. I tell you one thing though as it relates to Dez, he was smart enough & talented enough to get a 5 year $70 million deal.

When you use a guy(Dez) to get other guys open...there is only so much space on a football field for a guy to operate. Hence, there are only so many routes a player can run. Not to mention we are one of the FEW legitimate week in and week out running teams. Can Dez be better....sure he can. But so can every other coach and player on this team. But what I do know is that Dez is a legitimate baller. And we don't have many of those types. I believed Parcells called them "catalytic" players.

They definitely weren't crisp and he was not known as a great route runner? Crap routes may have been harsh (like TO for what he gave us, etc.); just first word that popped in my head.

Sometimes TO had a knack for running his routestoo close to the sideline, which also didn't help.

Romo is a 13 year vet if he can't pick defensive schemes up then there is a problem. I feel almost certain a year two Dak will be dramatically better.

Regarding Dez, he is what he is at this point. Never was known for being a true speed demon however I haven't seen many catch him behind either. Dak and Dez picked up their chemistry latter in the year and you could see it. Next year will be even better.

Romo will still be better than Dak next year. I hope we keep him.

Realistically, Romo hasn't played football in 3 years. He took one hit last year and it effectively ended his career in Dallas. I saw Dak take hits last year that would have injured Romo. I'm not trying to dog Romo here, but when it's time, it's time.....

Was going to say the same thing, there's nothing preventing the coaching staff from implementing more than 3 routes to his route tree. People point to Dez, I point to the coaches complacent offense and lack of coaching effort or innovation to get your best player on O(besides Zeke) the ball. Lazy coaching. TO ran crap routes too...had the whole tree open to him and produced anyway? That was Sparano's offense though...
Dez still does not understand the offense. He will get confused if the ask him to do anything that is not super simple.

Not only are his total routes limited, but his routes are predictable by where he lines up. I think Sturm touched on this in one of his articles.

His limitations make it really difficult to scheme around.

Later in the season after many struggles by Dez, Linehan would actually put in a play for Dez to be the primary on a very short and simple route. Then the next play or within a few plays, he would come back to him in an attempt for a big play. It seemed obvious that the initial short simple play was designed just to wake Dez up so that he would be ready when they wanted him to make a bigger play. It actually seemed to work to some extent.

Early in the season, Linehan just had Dez running go routes because with a rookie QB, he needed WRs running predictable routes. Witten, Beasley and TWill are the good route runners with Dez and Butler being clueless.

I'd like to see Dez's numbers with Romo throwing to him vs other QB's throwing to him. Seems like Romo and Dez had a great connection, and it is difficult for other QB's to find that same success with Dez. This is probably true because of Dez's lack of separation, but Romo had an understanding with Dez that if he threw it in a certain area despite the lack of separation Dez would make the play. Lets not act like Dez is not a beast.

On all of these plays besides the YAC v Washington Dez has someone draped on him, but he makes plays that few receivers can make if the QB puts it in a spot where he can go get it.

It took Romo a little time to figure out how he needed to throw to Dez, and I think Dak will figure it out as well. There were definitely some throws Dak made to Dez that were not the type he needed to make. This is a developing relationship.

There definitely would have been benefits to Romo playing this year, primarily because of his savvy, if he had been healthy, but I'll take three losses out of 16 games with Dak and be happy. It's hard to say the playoff game would have turned out any differently so I can't look back with regrets ... other than regretting that Romo wasn't rewarded for his efforts over the years with more playoff success and a Super Bowl.

The ole "T.O." defense, eh?
