Split the difference between Peppers and Ware. 3 years, $30 million, $14.25 million guaranteed. Structure it so that he has moderately low (Say, a guaranteed $4 million or so in the first year) base salaries in 2014 and 2015, then make him a June 1st cut and spread out the remaining $3.4 in dead money over two years. He'll count as much in each of those years as Sean Lissemore is counting now. You'd have to restructure a few more contracts to fit Allen and Melton under the cap, but at this point it's either that or effectively tanking the season. Even a couple of high rookie draft picks won't make this an NFL-caliber defensive line.

I think he'd go for 3 years 20m with 14m guaranteed.

This is a pipe dream. I don't see him even thinking about signing here and I think Jerry is wasting this mans time. Why even have him come here? To get the fans fired up? Well guess what you don't sign him and the fans laugh at you. Now Hatch is a Skin slap to your face Ware you didn't even make an attempt to keep him. The more and more I see things happening the more and more I see Jason's fingers all over this. He wanted to get rid of the guys he could not control period.

Nobody is making him come here, he obviously has some interest or he wouldn't waste his time as you say

Both guys were raised in Dallas county and that could be the x factor in signing them...sometimes you just wanna go home.

It could be great story for Allen. He decided to take a little less to come home and stay in the game, i'd offer 3 years 25 million, 8 million guaranteed and release Orton and maybe Free as well.

The Cowboys can still gain some cap room by cutting Kyle Orton and Justin Durant. But the fact they didn't sign Henry Melton today could be a sign they've shifted their focus to Allen. It's tough being this patient when the rest of the NFC East is adding playmakers, but Dallas isn't giving out big contracts to aging and/or injured players.

Is Allen a better player at this point than Hatcher was? I'd much rather have inside pass rush than pass rush from the edge.

I'm cool with them signing Allen if he gets less than Hatcher did.

If they pay more than they paid for Hatcher then the Cowboys are just exchanging one aging pass rusher for another.

different positions dude. Melton is Hatcher's replacement. He is 27 vs 32 and 5 years is a lot in lineman years. Protect yourself in case the injury performance affecting and call it a win.
Allen is Ware's replacement. Same age without the significant injury history and still productive. Again if you can make a cap friendly deal call it a win.
Personally, I'm not confident that either one of them will want what we are able to pay. From all the numbers floating around I'm guessing we have about 6 mill this year that we can split between them. Neither of them want that and I'm not a fan of a long term deal. We just got out of two of them.... don't want more.

We are already $7.9m under the cap right now. Cap room is not why we have not signed them.

Any updates on Allen?

He is set to visit Dallas tomorrow, however Florio says that Allen is just pulling our chain and he is really not interested in playing for Dallas because he wants a chance to win and we are a scrub loser team.

How Florio knows this is anybody's guess.

i seen florio on the pft show today and it was him speculating what allen was doing. he THINKS allen is trying to get a idea of what is value is so if he does sign with a team like seattle and takes less he actually knows what less is. he did say he doesnt see allen signing with dallas because he wants to win.
