'We have a lot to play for,' insists Garrett, trying to dismiss clinching #Cowboys rest-v-rust meaningless-game debate.

Garrett said he congratulated the team on clinching NFC East during short team meeting today, but focused on Friday practice, Monday game.
Garrett said Randy Gregory practiced fully on Thursday and did a good job. First on-field work since his suspension.
Asked about clinching homefield advantage, Garrett said, "It's important...But the only thing that matters is what we do now."

We have a lot to play for in January.

We are 2 games from the Super Bowl regardless of anything.

Dak is going to play... not Romo. People should come to grips with that so they don't get so worked up.

Tony takes practice snaps every practice and he had 10 years experience. He doesn't need to play the tail end of a meaningless game to be ready to go in for Dak.

Dak needs all the reps he can get.

Play Dak against the Lions. Depending on how things shake out, we might see them in the playoffs.

If a lot of people are so amped about getting Romo in there, then play him against the Eagles. But be warned. The Eagles defense would be licking their chops. I'm sure they would like nothing better than breaking Romo in half and ending his career with yet another injury.

Your call.

But I would be more inclined to save Romo for the playoffs if something happens to Dak in those games.

I get it....Romo is pure perfection and he doesn't need any stinken practice. If needed, just plug him....abracadabra......

Romo is a darn good QB but it just amazes me the selective memory many have of him. I'm gonna go eat snickers now! lol
Yeah, that's not what anyone has said.. lol Romo gets practice with all the #1s every practice. I'm confident the team is doing all they have to do to keep him ready.

But PLEASE go have a snickers and a Merry Christmas.

nope, not concerned at all as I vividly recall, over his career, the whole Romo picture. Not just cherry picked snippets of his glory. I'm getting tired all this Romo drama....he's just one player on our team as far as I'm concerned. AND he's also Dak's back-up.....it's his job to be playing some at this point in the season so he should be going out there and doing his job.
I think the bigger factor is one of, they may want to rest OL, and more specifically 77. Putting Tony out there behind Emmett cleary and co is probably not the best idea. If the starting OL stays in, then you have a shot at seeing 9.

Are you sure? They may not want to start a QB controversy right before the playoffs as they know full well how effectively Romo can run this offense. In others words, if Romo plays, the Lions are going to get eviscerated.
If Romo did play well, it would definitely give us great trade value for next year, a #1 pick. So that would be nice in my mind.

Garrett is absolutely correct. A great regular season will soon be forgotten if we don't gets wins in the post season.

How quickly people forget?

Romo was the boys offense for all these years before Jerry wisened up and started making OL investments , which lead to good running game. With effective running game , Healthy Romo becomes a dangerous weapon for any defense, they cant afford to load the box, he will pick apart you with all weapons - Witten , Dez, Beasely and Williams . He doesnt have to create something out of nothing any more.

You guys conveniently forgot average receivers which were made stars by Romo - Miles, robinson... who went to other teams and faded off

AMEN bro...what the hell is going on at VR? They are being so careful with Tony and his 'feelings'. I refuse to believe he's that mentally fragile. Play him 2-3 qtrs vs. the Lions and Eagles and sharpen him UP for the playoff run. Can't believe how badly they're mismanaging this. Jebus, use your heads guys.

I actually agree with everything you say, haven't forgotten. There's so many dynamic changes tho with the 2016 version Cowboys. IMO Dak should play the 1st half of next two games (or at least against Philly) and Romo play the 2nd. He needs to get in, work off rust.....maybe show he can take a hit.....and just play some game speed football before the playoffs.

No one forgot Romo when he played great in 2014. But Romo 2016, no one knows what he is (projecting as a starter). He is the backup. That we know.

Romo hasn't proven he is better in 2016. This isn't 2014.

He hasn't been given an opportunity to. He was clearly better in Training camp. He looked sharp in the Miami Pre season game. Coaches decided not to let him compete for the position once he was ready, they knew he would win a fair competition and they had already decided to go with Dak. So while this is Dak's team now and in the future, Tony is the better QB. I hope Dak proves to be what everyone thinks he is. Im just going to enjoy the ride until it ends this year.

So Tony played well in training camp and preseason with soft defenses, he is the better qb now in the regular season and for the playoffs? That's your opinion. Dak has a chemistry with the team, Tony hasn't (with this team). Dak is the better qb right now, because he has showed it in tough regular season games. Tony hasn't. Until Tony shows what he can do in a game with defenses gearing for him and can get up after being hit hard.

Usually we are fighting for a playoff spot all the way up to week 17. When we locked in in 2014 Romo sat the 2nd half against the Commanders

He sat the 2nd half in 2007 against the skins. The only game there wasn't some possible seeding consequence. He played the full game in 2014 - there was still a chance for a bye.

That Dak is the better QB is also your opinion. I will take a decade of what I have seen from Romo 100% of the time over what I have seen from Dak this year (which is good for a rookie - and compared to many other starters). In my opinion, he (Romo) would be the best he's ever been in 2016. That would be huge for Zeke.

Uh...that's what message boards are for, opinions. It's the teams opinion that Dak has a chemistry with the team that Romo doesn't have right now.
