He’s intelligent, organized, consistent, and able to dampen the circus atmosphere Jerry insists on cultivating. He develops players well. He keeps the team focused, and they play hard.

Most of what he does poorly is massively exaggerated by upset fans. They hated his play calling, though his offenses were generally in the top ten in the league in terms of production/series. They are his press conferences, though fail to understand he does it for a very good reason. They hate his clapping...never understood why that was such an issue. Really, what they’re unhappy about is the team not going on a playoff run, and when they don’t like that result, the easiest person to blame is the coach. Personally, I don’t think he’s miss d the playoffs with a playoff caliber team until last season.

Develops players well? That is laughable. Keeps them focused? Not seeing that one either. If I HAD to make one up I would say the players like him. But who cares about that if it doesnt lead to wins.

Iced his own kicker to lose a game that cost the team a playoff appearance. Pretty much the butt fumble of coaching. There's really nothing else to talk about

How many teams would offer him a job if he got fired?

That presumes he does something to get fired.

How many would offer him a job if he wins the Super Bowl? See how that works?

I gave links that explain the methodologies others used to measure player development. I didn’t think they were all that funny, but might have missed something.

And we’re in the top quartile of the league in terms of wins under Garrett. Including the rebuild seasons.

I keep hearing new reasons to justify mediocrity all the time.

Only Landry has more wins than Garrett but until he wins a championship the bashing will continue. Very similar to the Romo rhetoric. Fans have a new whipping boy.

He's a survivor. He's lasted along time without any/many playoff victories. That takes some sort of skill.

Sounds more like you’re having troubles separating the factors that have to come together for a team to make a legitimate playoff run from where I’m sitting, but who’s to say?

I would think the biggest argument against player development this offseason is that the position coaches were used as the scapegoats. They are the ones actually doing the development and apparently they weren’t doing a good enough job.

It’s a fair argument. We’ve still had a lot of success with our draft picks relative to the rest of the league.

Whatever the beef was between Linehan and the other offensive coaches, we haven’t heard the details yet. There’s a juicy story there somewhere. I don’t think it’s that the position coaches couldn’t coach. I think they lost a power struggle of some sort.
