Jason Hatcher on what’s different about Washington: The head coach isn’t policing the team

Usually, gripes made by Ex-Cowboys concern me. I think they're honest, raw commentary providing a shed of insight into the reasons for our failures.

But here? I'd be more concerned if I were a Commanders fan. Comes across as if he's saying the new 'Skins coach is loosey-goosey, and he's A-OK with that. Doesn't bother me the least as a Cowboys fan.

I feel they will have a rough year. I think Gruden was a soft hire, Griffin showed his true colors last season and the trade of Jackson is not going to be the boon they think it is.

Bob will have the wrong Gruden for lunch.

They give us more say-so over the team. This is our team. The head coach don’t want to be policing the team. This is our team, so when we set the foundation for this football team, the way it’s supposed to go, that’s the way it’s supposed to go, through the players and not the coaches.

I know I'm late to this thread... but, lol, what?

It’s a players team, so whatever we say goes, pretty much, if it’s going in the right direction.”

He can't be serious, can he?

Oh, this season is gonna be good...

Don't know why everyone is so bent out of shape. Hatch gon' be Hatch.

He's not even bad mouthing the team. Fans get too emotional sometimes.

I guess this means everyone gets a logo. Oprah gonna be in the locker room sayin' "You get a logo, you get a logo, everyone in this audience errrr on the team gets a LOGO!!!!"

Not sorry to see him gone. I'm confident he will prove to be yet another disappointing free agent signing for the Commanders.

I like and dislike Hatcher for these reasons:

Like:

1. Last year he worked his butt off during the offseason, he constantly tweeted when he would finish his workouts.
2. He turned into a dominant player for this team and was the only good thing about the DL last year.

Dislike:

1. It took him entirely too long for him to get his attitude and self motivation to the level that got him his first pro bowl. Think of what he could have done if he had worked as hard as he did last offseason his first few years on the team...
2. Hatcher clearly took the most money from the highest bidder and is trying to say publicly that he didn't do so.

I'm a little tired of the Marinelli "pixie dust" reasoning...as in he can turn these low upside prospects into 1st round talent garbage.

Coaching is 50% of the formula...guess what the other 50% is?

Like I said previously, Hatcher put a lot of hard work on his own last offseason before any voluntary workouts happened. It's a shame that it took a "contract year" or Hatcher realizing that his time in Dallas was coming to an end for him to decide he needed to look out for his interests.

Most players do not know what is good for them. Hatcher is a pretty good example. If he did know he would realize going to a 3-4 team is not exactly the best. But he does not care. He was chasing money and if he wanted a place where the lunatics run the asylum and winning a title is not a focus, he probably ended up in the perfect spot for him.

Yeah, silly ole Jason chasing money. How dumb to look after his families future.

He already made more from the Cowboys than most people will in their lifetime. Forgive me if I do not weep for him or his starving family.

Stephen Bowen talked a lot about the differences between Washington and Dallas and how much better it was in Washington...

Oh, this season is gonna be good...

1. If beating the Commanders alone means a good season, your definition of good and mine differ greatly.
2. I doubt seriously this approach continues through Training Camp. For right now, it makes sense to let the veterans dictate their conditioning for training camp. They know what's best for their bodies better than anyone. They are professionals and should be able to police themselves. I have a feeling though that atmosphere will change once the pads come on.
