Actually, he could probably be the player he is now for 5 more seasons.

This doesn't nothing to change that. All it does is allow them to restructure his deal to free up space. If they never do that, he can retire or be released with no cap hit whatsoever. This was done purely for cap flexibility, not because they want Witten to play 4 more years.

He can't get down the seams. Can't run a full route tree anymore. Doesn't command any attention down the field.

Yet the offense was extremely effective last year.

Witten moves the chains and will almost always get you some yardage. Personally I don't feel this offense needs or calls for a TE like Rob Gronkowski though I know it wouldn't hurt.

Dak is going to need a veteran to turn to other than Dez so I think it was a smart move on the part of the FO. I mean of the young guys can beat him out that's on them not Witten.

Yep, I suspect they are discussing making a move for a defensive free agent and are just giving themselves the flexibility to do so if it works out. There are a few names out there that they could be considering making a play for.

I'm sure they extend Zack Martin but they don't need 15 Million in current year money to do that. When they extended Travis Frederick he still only had a 2016 cap hit of 2.2 Million and a 2017 cap hit of 4.5 Million. Zack Martin without an extension actually had a bigger cap hit last year than Frederick did after his big extension.

Guys who love football don't show up to camp 20 pounds overweight like Revis did last year.

Revis loves money more than he loves football. Unless he's offered more than $10M per year, I don't think he comes back. He can make $6M just sitting on the couch.

From what i've read Revis intentionally put on weight. And that he realizes the mistake and he's slimming down.

I'm not going to question Revis' heart as I don't know the man.

He said he was year to year at this point in his career. I don't recall him saying that it was his last year or even implying.

If he can still play at a high level I expect he will be back.

In a way, it does limit the personnel groupings and formation variety. Even four WR packages have him split out at times.

They are so used to having Witten out there as a security blanket to pick up the easy six-seven yards, they even leave him in there with longer yardage plays. It is simple temptation.

He is not going to split the seam any longer unless some team is really not paying attention. Most of the time it is just as much as teams laying off of him, giving up the cheap yards and then waiting for the punt or FG than him faking someone out of their jock for a backbreaking conversion anymore.

If this is a cap clearing move this makes some degree of sense. If this really is a true 4 year extension of Witten with guaranteed money and an expectation he will play four more years I take back some of my positive posts about this organization doing a better job running the franchise.

I guess we will have to see the specifics one way or the other. Wittens best days are far behind him in the rear view mirror.

If you can't see that Witten limits the offense I don't know how you can view yourself as objective. He is steady and catches a lot of balls but he has absolutely no speed whatsoever.
