Signed by Cowboys Jason Witten signs four-year extension through 2021

I don't think we're really targetting anyone specifically, but McDonald is an interesting name given our need and the fact Kiffin coached him at USC.

Yeah I wouldn't mind him either, but I still like weakening the Giants by taking Hankins from them and opening up things for Zeke against the Giants.

Romo's contract is already on the books and we're still about $10M under the cap...what does Romo have to do with anything? We could keep him with or without moving $ around
We have to sign draft picks and perhaps other post-draft free agents. I think we may have needed Romo's money for that without this type of restructure.

Well it wont be Chris Long. pay situation? Tell me more plz

Revis' prior contract with the Jets requires that they pay him $6 million.

If he doesn't play a snap in 2017, he gets paid $6 million.

But any of the money someone else might pay him gets offset to the Jets, meaning that Revis doesn't get it, the Jets get that back. So he gets paid $6 million not to play, and any team wanting him to put in the work has to pay completely above and beyond that $6 million and whatever else he demands.

Still interested?

we have enough to draft and more.
to sign the draft picks - only need ~$2M instead of 5-6M because rule of 51.
there must be something cooking for this move.

Four more years? Gotta admit, I'm scratching my head on this one. I'll be anticipating comments from Stephen as to what this is all about.

If we offer him 5m per say. How does that work? We pay 5 and Jets pay 1?

No idea if they're looking to sign someone in particular, but here are a few candidates

Jonathan Hankins, DT
Jared Oldrick, DE/DT
TJ McDonald, SS
Zach Brown, LB
Bradley McDougal, FS
Eric Walden, OLB
Mario Williams, DE
Dwight Freeny, DE
Devin Taylor, DE

Etc

I did not know Walden is still a free agent. He had a career year last year for the Colts with 11 sacks. Of course, that was as an outside linebacker, so there's some size limitations for him at end (and he's 31).

I think Witten might have two years left at most...sounds like the second round is primed once again for another tight end draft selection......we all know how that's worked out in the past!!

Draft picks and post June 1st vet signings wouldn't even cut into 1/2 of our available cap space...unless someone really unexpected gets cut and we give said player a multi year contract, seems unlikely though. I think we only need like $3M for rookie contracts. Romo's $ or status on the team has nothing to do with this, that I can assure you.
