Faulk over Emmitt? please....Faulk was a great back, but he is not on the level of Emmitt.

Peterson? for shame....Sure he racks up yards and stuff, but for a back of his "AWESOMENESS" why does he hardly score any TDs?

No back has more yards and TDs than Emmitt Smith..........and he has a league MVP, 3 SB Rings, and 4 rushing titles to boot.

Yeah this should be about Witten, but since we are discussing...:D

On Peterson, he has been getting into the end zone a lot more, especially when Chester Taylor isn't stealing some of his 1 yard td's, which he is doing less and less now. I sometimes think TD's can be a little overrated. With All Day's standing though, I know people want him to score 20 TD's every year.

I think the bigger problem is his penchant for fumbling...but as far as WOW factor and pure ability, he's the best of i've personally seen and he has a LONG way to go, let's see what happens.

I have been known to obnoxiously debate Emmitt Smith as the best RB ever to no end with my buddies:D

In 5 years, Witten should be #2 easily, if he can remain healthy.

has nothing to do with being a homer faulk isnt even the same level as smith or sanders and its too soon on peterson but to say you would take him over all three is just asinine

Here's another stat to make Jason Witten "look better than he really is" --

With just 35 more catches this season, he will move into second place all-time for catches by age 27. That's for ANY position, not just tight ends. Randy Moss holds the record at 574. Andre Johnson is second with 486. Witten currently has 452. (Larry Fitzgerald has 443 and could beat Witten to second place, though. Fitzgerald is only 26, so he could catch Moss next year.)

I feel bad for Jason, because as hard as he works and as badly as he wants to win, he's been putting together one helluva career for an underachieving team. I really hope the guy wins a ring with the 'Boys (said Captain Obvious).

I really hope Witten can stay healthy to play as long as Gonzo.

If Witten was really any good ...... we would be 4-0

He only has these numbers because his bunk buddy is forcing passes to him at the expense of the team.

T.O. was right ..... they formulate their own plans during their sleepovers.

He currently has 452 career receptions. Michael Irvin is #1 in Cowboys History with 750.

Drew Pearson is #2 with 489.

Emmitt Smith is #3 with 486.

That means Jason is 37 receptions from being #2 on the all time Cowboys list for receptions.

I am sorry that stuff like this is still important to me. I return you to your regularly scheduled freakout over the failing season.

Too bad the greatness of witten is being wasted on this sub-par gutless squad. He will be one of very few that are in the Ring of Honor with no hardware.

I dont know if this is sarcasm or not (some times its hard to tell over a message board) but that is a stretch. I will say this though... Its not as easy for him now that he gets all the attention, those 25 to 40 yard passes between the hashes seemed to have ceased. Right now he is not looking like the best tight end in the league, though still top 3 to 5.

I love me some Witten. He is great and will be in the RoH.

If you replace Novacek with Witten on those 90s teams Dallas would have still won 3 SBs. He would have fit in very well on those teams and he is better than Novacek.

If you replace Witten with Novacek on these recent teams Dallas would probably be in the same position. Maybe even a little worse because Novacek is not as good as Witten. Although Dallas may have one playoff victory because Novacek was also the holder on field goals. :p:

Just when I thought the whining could not get any dumber.

Sir I ask what was dumb about that...

Jerry(though not intentionally) is very capable of destroying a team by not being a owner/gm and interfering in the coaching and personnel.

Jason Garrett- Is just not that good of a coordinator as it stands right now.

Tony Romo is either regressing or looking really bad because of Jason Garretts terrible system. A system that lives for the big play, when we have no big play receiver, and our big play back is not regularly on the field.

I dont thing the guy mean that those three are going to sabotage witten.

Not that I am arguing either side because I though both where phenomenal running backs with different styles, but Barry didn't benefit from the same O-line that Emmitt did and played his entire career with a crappy QB, so you can't just look at stats alone to determine whose better. I'm just glad I was able to experience two all time greats in my lifetime.

I hate this argument. People fail to realize that barry played with 2 probowl lineman and one that hof'er.

Barry play Perriman (receiver that caught over 100 balls) as well as a pro bowl receiver in Herman Moore. Barrys team was not as bad as people make it out to be.

The fact of the matter is Barry was a more exciting "runner" , but Smith was the better Running Back.

Barry=Freaky Mistress (excitment) Emmitt=Long Time wife (total package)

Who the hell cares, the thread is about Jason Witten, why are we talking about Smith and Sanders? They were both great RB's, I'd take either one, I'd take Faulk in his prime over either, and I'd take Peterson over all three.

Faulk was a great runner and a greater pass threat but he's not the runner Emmitt was. I don't know about his blocking as I don't remember him doing that much.

Peterson hasn't been around long enough to make that kind of statement.
