I am not so sure that he is needed this yr. I know this is blasphemous but I just do not see it. He has done a lot for the franchise over the yrs, I just don’t like the move. That’s all, I’ll take my lumps.

Is he worth the Cap expense? Only reason I would keep him as he's a major asset for Dak in the Red-Zone....

You do understand in 1152 receptions Witten’s scored just 69 times, right?

Comparatively speaking, Rob Gronkowski has 79 TDs on just 521 career receptions.

That’s a scoring threat.

Witten is an ironman; he’s got big accumulated numbers due to toughness and longevity. Let’s not act like he’s bringing something dynamic to the offense.

My bad, I didn't realize I was talking to someone that kisses Gronks feet. Some TEs are good in the endzone, others are good no matter where they are on the field, like Witten. It just depends on how they are used. While you are suggesting those stats make Gronk look better, they actually only reveal how Belichick was using him. Witten would have similar or better numbers if used the same way.

Witten is not the blocker that he was in 2014 but he can manage to execute most blocks that they'll require him to make.

Jarwin has minimal blocking ability. He does know who to block and can often get in the way enough to make the play work.

Schultz is the best blocker but the least developed as a receiver of the 3.

I don’t care about the money, it’s not mine to spend and every team has the exact same amount of money to spend! My worry is that Witten is a shell of his former(tho great)self...It was passed time to move on when he retired, he’s only here as a career token at this point!

So maybe Kellen Moore will use Witten different than Linehan did. There's no reason Witten couldn't become Moore's endzone specialist.

I respectfully disagree...I think Jarwin can do everything that Witten can at this point! He may not be as savvy but that comes with time and experience, something he won’t get with Witten here this yr!

He's been a leader here for years. Having him here to mentor at his price helps tremendously in itself. Not even just TE's.

The red zone is condensed so teams are giving up easy underneath routes which Witten thrives on. Witten also has little to no catch radius; he’s not jumping, diving, muscling up anyone.

Yes, there is a reason the Cowboys didn't use Witten the same as Gronk because their coaches had two different philosophies on how to use them. Your point about Witten's catch radius is ridiculous. I don't buy it for a second, but thanks for the laugh.

Wouldn't you want to actually develop your future? How else is Jarwin supposed to develop if some old man who has diminished skills keeps taking all his reps and snaps? It is nothing more than a charity case by the front office allowing him back. No TE's will EVER develop with this dude here. Jarwin will rot away on the bench now that Witten is back. Can't wait for his redzone false starts and 3 yard outs on 3rd and 10. Yay.

I’m not advocating that I want Witten to have a large number of snaps. Believe me.

I’m just saying Witten at this age is still an upgrade from the production we got from the TE spot last year. Which was almost nothing.

Thanks. I reviewed the tape and it looked to me like Witten got the guy from the side enough to throw the flag. It wasn't a block in the back but they are coached to keep their guy's front jersey numbers in front of them during the block and Witten didn't do that. It's a legit flag or at least not worth challenging.

Probably the same people saying he's a good blocker. He wasn't great at it 2 years ago. Hard to think he's improved after a year off.

i think it's as a mentor/coach but yes it does cost a roster spot. i'm wanting to see how well he can still play but my guess is due to his value to the org itself, he's going to play this year as best he can then shift to being a coach on the staff.

Jarwin blocking is not good, he is a receiver for the most part but the position of TE requires the ability to block.
