...I dont think they even showed the replay on that. They just showed Witten conversing with another player in regards to it.

He’s better than everyone we have, he’s cheap, and he still wants to play.

and as old and mummy- ancient as he is, Witten is very durable. and wont get the lumps and bumbs injuries that limit and threat to seat the other TEs (ala Jarwin, schultz) and all our TEs have issues at blocking - that could prove problematic at the edges if injuries continue to mound.

i still question havign 4 TEs ( marcus lucas more likely if we did) but couldn't we have Olawele (who i heard played some TE in college) if we just had
have a human body in there. .. or resort to Jumbo Looney (as we did in 2016) in the mix if we came down to needing a more blocking TE force ?

I agree, not that Witten has morphed into a top blocker but he is sometimes successful, hopefully those attempts do not draw a holding penalty as has started to happen in his last two years of playing.

i think Witten is going help when it comes to certain 3rd down chains and red zone chances, the big differences is we have to count on him near as much as in the past as we've added more capable weapons such as Cooper, Gallup, Cobb, and even Jarwin

I was against the move of bringing Witten back, but he has looked quicker, faster and more productive throughout training camp this year than he did his last few years before he retired. Like others have said, he obviously is our best TE currently on the team, and that says a lot. Plus, with his experience and leadership, he sets the example of what our team needs, especially our young TEs who definitely could use his tutorship.

Jarwin has been better than Witten. Don't know where people are getting this idea that he far and away our best TE. Maybe in terms of blocking and knowing the plays. He just takes snaps away from younger TEs that are faster and younger than he is.

I was skeptical about him rejoining the team due to his age and previous TE comments that he never taught them....but the current TE's say he's sharing info and helping them, so I'm fully on board with him being on the team teaching these young guys techniques.

Exactly. You just said it. Witten IS far and away much better at blocking, route running and knowing the plays than the rest of the TEs, so how am I wrong in saying Witten is currently our best TE? You know there is much more to being a TE than catching the ball.

Far and away? I didn't say that. I said he knows the plays more and is probably a better blocker. I know you're a big fan of Witten. But he has lost a step and can no longer take it to the distance like someone like Jarwin.

If I'm going to see Witten catch the ball on a 3rd down play and it falls short of the marker and we have to punt, I'm going to get sick.

You haven't seen enough from Witten since his return to make those statements. Those are just assumptions you are making based on how he played in 2017. Everyone in camp is saying Witten has gained a step and looks fresh.

When did I ever say I'm a big fan of Witten? Actually, I've been one of his biggest critics over the years for the same reasons you are now criticizing him. But let's get real, after the performance we saw from our other TEs this past season, today's Witten can still outperform them.
