I know it's common sense, but I wish I could find an article that quoted those two. I'm looking in the Daily Zone for such articles, right after the game, but am not having much success.

So I am lying?

I will find it, I am pretty sure I heard those two say it on the post game or the week after on the post game.

Never particularly liked the guy and I've always believed he worked hard to cultivate a good ol' boy persona that enabled him to con certain members of the media.

Undoubtedly had alot to do with why he beat out guys like Steve Young and others for MVPs when he was probably not the most deserving candidate.

lol...ease up, tanto. I'm sure they said it - I'd just like to find it to show these Packers fans who are putting the stock "I'm upset Favre is leaving, but I'm not worried after watching Rodgers against the Cowboys."

I'm surprised by his retirement. I thought he would come back for at least one more year because of how well the Packers did this season.

You know this how?

2 or 3 drives in a row he may not ever hand off.
He took the game out of his coaches hands in the past. I think he did it this year and that spelled the end for him.

Maybe that is why the coaches would say at the end of a game that they abandoned the run. hard to blame the qB when he is running what the coaches call. It is common knowledge by Packer fans that Shermans offense did not allow Favre to audible to a different play. Writers for the Packers wrote this information a lot during Shermans years.

I don't see how running the plays the coaches call is taking the game out of teh coaches hands. It helps your argument tho to make stuff up....

One of the few non-Cowboys players that I have actually considered myself a "fan" of. The guy is gonna be missed. I was hoping we could get one last showdown with him in the playoffs. Guess that one is our fault. :D

Really though, as a young guy, I've never watched a whole year of football that didn't include Bret Favre. Weird to think about.

Rodgers will be a big bag of nothing. That'll become obvious to everyone once he plays more.

Sorry, GB fans, you now get to experience our post-Aikman years. Have fun with most of the rest of the league slogging along with an average QB.

I think you have to call Brett Favre a great QB. He is definitely in the top 20 of all-time without debate. That is great. Period.

It was the "beyond great" thing that I took issue with. I do think that Favre's greatness is exaggerated because of his personality and style of play.

The 3 MVP's don't carry as much weight with me personally because I think that they are also a product of what I mentioned above. He was in a stat producing offense for a QB, because he threw the ball a lot more inside the 5 than most guys would. And his personality endeared him to fans, players and media.

I think he was a great player, with the weaknesses that I made note of in an earlier post, definitely in the top 20 QB's of all-time, but overrated (in my opinion) because of his personality and flair for the dramatic. His strengths were always played up, his serious weaknesses were always pretty much ignored, but they hurt his team in some big games.

I believe this opinion has some validity to it. Although, I would point out that you would have a hard time finding those bad decisions during his MVP run. He garnered those MVPs because everyone knew that Holmgren was going to call Pass, but they couldn't stop Favre from making the throw.

It doesnt make sense to me.
He has been retiring for 3 years because he wanted a good team, he believed he had a goot team. Now he has it..... he retires??

It doesnt make sense. His decision was made for him.

I would retire if I were Favre. Who wants to play with a team of "goots".

Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary -
Goot - n. A goat.

Good now the packers could move forward. Its so obv that Farve just wanted the records jerk

I would be IRATE if I were a Packers fan. They're not a contender (yet) with Favre's backup and they didn't even try to land Moss. There's no way he retires if they bring him in after a 13-3 season. I'm actually mad about it and I don't care for the Packers at all. Oh well.

I think I'd be far more irate about not landing him last summer rather than this summer...Let's face it, it was hardly a doubt he was returning to New England.

And as for Rodgers, I'm reserving judgement...He came in heralded out of college and has looked far better than the top pick Alex Smith...I think he can clearly play and good days still ahead for the pack, IMHO

I couldn't disagree with you more. The man was absolutely great. Watch the reactions of other NFL players when asked about his retirement. Watch and learn.

Agreed...Can't even begin to understand a debate about Favre's legacy...Great QB, enough said really...I'm not into ranking them but acknowledging greatness is simple really

Bret to me was one Great QB's years ago, but in recent years (not including Bret's last season) he's been dissappointing.

I'm glad he's retiring on a good note.

Does anyone know if the NFL Network is replaying the Cowboys SB game. I was working last night and the game is not showing this morning at 11am (which it was scheduled for). Now the NFL Network is having a Bret "Kiss Fest". everything is about Bret now.

Dang it Bret! I wish you retired THIS AFTERNOON!!:(

When we think of self-promoters, we think of Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens, but Favre did it in a clever, subtle way. He had people like Peter King and John Madden eating out of his hands.

I hope he goes and gets on his riding lawn mower in Mississippi and is never heard from again.

But I know that won't happen. He needs publicity.

Wow. How dare you post that "dribble" on here?

I agree 100%:D
"consider Favrevidians sucked"

hey at least we get to hear ESPN talk about the Manning family and how wonderful they are for the next 5 years!!!

LOl---it is the same song just a different verse of what you have been singing. Of course you would love the post.....I can feel the ground swell of support your are getting for his "pretty good" QB rating. Keep it up and you may have 4 or 5 on your Support Bus by the end of the day...

Hey...remember back in 2006 when this happened after the Packers beat the Vikings?

It was the 36th game-winning comeback for Favre, who has not yet announced whether he will play next season and did not speak with reporters following the game.

He held the ball aloft after the final gun, and hugged a couple of former teammates now with the Vikings, safety Darren Sharper and kicker Ryan Longwell. He also saluted his family in a Lambeau skybox, along with the fans surrounding the tunnel to the locker room.

Hey....remember after the Packers beat the Seahawks in Lambeau to close the 2005 season, when he this happened?

Favre, 36, said in recent weeks he is unsure whether he will play next year. He did not speak to the media after Sunday's game, an unusual move for him. Favre left the field waving to the crowd, surrounded by a swarm of photographers and others.

"I'm going to take some time and get away from the season for a bit and then talk to people here in Green Bay and then we'll see," Favre said in comments distributed by the Packers public relations staff.

Hey, remember after the 2004 playoff loss to the Vikings when Favre said this?

Favre said he'll spend some time now thinking about his future, but he wasn't going to let this game play a role in his decision to retire or return for a 15th season.

"It would be easy to walk off the field after that game, and say, 'I've had enough,' " Favre said. "But I'm going to try to be as fair to myself and my team as possible. I've had a lot of great games. This obviously was not one of them."

Glad he got all that out of the way.

Hey...this will be a fun trivia question.

Who caught Brett Favre's last NFL pass?

Corey Webster!
