Twitter: Jay Ratliff released...Ending His 8-Year Run In Dallas

I'll miss Jay, people forget how good of a player he was for us. I hope he can recover and play again.

helluva player, don't let the door hitcha where the good Lord splitcha....I don't wish him ill will, but I certainly won't be happy if he plays for someone next week!

Ratliff was all pro when he got that contract. The Cowboys took care of a guy that they had been grossly underpaying for years.

It is things like this that make Dallas an attractive FA destination and in the age of the salary cap, it makes a meaningful difference. Compare that to say SD where they do not do things such as this and you can see where it becomes a competitive advantage.

No such thing as being underpaid and I'm not sure how one could consider that a competitive advantage. If it is, it sure hasn't shown up in the Win/Loss columns.

My only regret with Ratliff is that we played him out of position at NT when he was actually good. There is not a chance in hades anyone can convince me he was ever a true NT. What a waste of a perfectly good scheme and a perfectly good player.

no.. It doesn't. If you don't understand the cap, you probably shouldn't speak to it. Your just confusing people.

It means either releasing or restructuring. Where do you people get your crazy ideas about the salary cap? If the cap doesn't "matter," then where in the heck did league parity come from? Where did the Cowboys dynasty go? Why can't this team afford to sign players to get them over the 8-8 hump these past few years? Hmm?

how much money would we have saved if we cut him immediately after the physical altercation with jerry last season? none?

We already have no money for next year this just makes it so much worse

Exactly. The stupidity of Jerry Jones strikes again. Ratliff should have been released right after the season last year.

Yep, same old Jerry Jones. Mis-evaluate and over-pay for an aged veteran passed his prime. I've seen this movie way too many times.

It seems like the salary cap issues of the last decade are still the salary cap issues of this decade. Then again, we've all heard the saying about the definition of insanity.

lol

yeah ok. Ummm... wow.

He wasn't even the best cowboy on the roster during his prime. Much less "all time" which is what I assume you meant?

He was a good one, but not even one of the top 5 interior DL in cowboys history.

I read this entire thread just to see how long it would take for someone to post a common sense reply to that - it took 9 pages of posts. Thank you...

Nice to see them finally admit their mistake - in deed anyway - by cutting him. They can save their collective breath trying to spin this as anything but the unmitigated disaster that it is.

You don't pay a player a truckload of money and then decide to 'move on'.

It was a toxic situation that everyone not wearing blinders clearly saw months ago.

Glad it's over but that doesn't mean it wasn't a mess.

It frees up 1mil actually.

Nonsense. We were going to spend that 6.x million either way, BUT we were going to have a starting defensive tackle in exchange. Now that 6.x mil is dead money.

Jerry Jones has earned a nickname: Little Miss Evaluate

Wow, just wow!!!!
This is about as great an example of "how not to run an NFL franchise" as you will find

Thanks for your time as a Dallas Cowboy Ratliff... I'm looking towards drafting his replacement come April.
