My main question is this: Why the **** did Jerry and Co SWEAR that Ratliff would be healthy this season and DEFEND their choice of not selecting a SINGLE DT in the draft with the "explanation" that JAY RATLIFF would be the "difference"???? I mean good God, 99.999% of us fans could have seen this coming except for literally Jerry himself which leads me to wonder why on earth this was not done prior to the season. LUCKILY our D-Line is showing great due to the presence of Rod Marinelli, the miracle worker himself, but damn, could you imagine how good they would've been with a legitimate replacement for Ratliff? My God, sometimes Jerry Jones really pisses me off...

Perhaps he wanted to give Marinelli the benefit of checking out the player himself. Maybe Marinelli decided that there was nothing to work with there and called it a day. IDK. could be a lot of different reasons here. We really don't much about the inner workings and we probably won't for a while.

Ratliff: "To all the Cowboys fans, I want to say it was an honor to play for you. Cowboys fans are the best fans in the NFL. I will miss u."

sad way to end his career. people on this site have questioned the training staff/doctors. now a big-time player is doing the same. something is up.

I believe Jay's football career is over just because of the severity of the injury.

If this occurred during a routine conditioning test, that doesn't bode well for Ratliff's health at all.

Just reading the conference call tweets from Ratliff's agents are that the Cowboys grew frustrated with Jay's declining health and opted to release him instead. The Cowboys lied to the public about the severity of the injury and that is were the fan base is getting angry from...because the fan base was led to believe that Ratliff would be back sooner than later.

The point is here, though, Ratliff tore the ligaments and muscle off of his pelvic bone during a conditioning test at training camp. This cannot be emphasized enough, and you have to wonder if he can truly heal 100% and not have a re-occurrence at his current age.

Rat agent: 'Muscle ripped off bone, pelvis in 2 places. Tendons from inside leg & abdomen at top of leg both ripped apart.' #cowboys

Ouch, and the agent said that this occurred during the conditioning test.

First of all, eww. Second of all, a lot of people were pretty dismissive of Rat's intentions to play this year. If this is true, it's another example of gun-jumping by our fans when the correct response was to be respectful re: the end of a career for a very good Dallas Cowboy DL whose heart was in exactly the right place.

A bad situation all around, but Rat was always a good guy and a tremendous asset for the team. Unfortunately the rigors of the game caught up to him and he may never play again. I hope he does but that injury is scary bad.

I can't even do anything but laugh...

...it's a shame that it ended this way. There wasn't a better Cowboy than him in his prime.

lol

yeah ok. Ummm... wow.

He wasn't even the best cowboy on the roster during his prime. Much less "all time" which is what I assume you meant?

He was a good one, but not even one of the top 5 interior DL in cowboys history.

Looking at an article I read on espn.com if we released him next season he would have counted 11 mil in dead money in 2015& that is the yr Dez is set to become a UFA and Smith enters his 5th yr (final) of his rookie contract.

We did save 1.3 mil, so that 8.2 dead cap space is now 6.9.

LOL! At the happy fans that thought this guy was ever going to do anything but inflate the salary cap.

I suspect that relationship pretty much ripped off the bone, too.

Ouch. And even with all the off field non-football related stuff, I am going to miss J Rat. A healthy Ratliff would have been a beast in this D scheme as an under tackle. It's really too bad for all involved.

I really wanted him to come back, I hate the way this played out.

I usually wish good luck to former players, I am on the bubble on this.

Ratliff will never again be a meaningful player in the league. Age and injuries and perhaps a lack of desire...he's done.

I read somewhere the Cowboys were $40m over the cap for 2014? Does this mean they are now $6.9m MORE over the cap ?

Makes me sad, but I might be on an island with that feeling..

I'm pretty bummed too. I was really hoping to get him back, but there has to be something besides this injury going on. I just hope we don't see him on another NFCE team.

No, if your a simple minded animal that is only able to understand straight forward punishment and reward concepts, then perhaps.

Actually, ABQ, if you studied any psychology at all, you'd know that punishment/reward has little impact when it is temporally divorced from the behavior being punished/rewarded.

Funny you would say this with everyone being able to judge your own "simple minded animal" on the board.
