I am curious if anyone has watched his isolated play in game 1. It seems liked he did OK from the game telecast.

I also noticed they subbed Durant in some on 3rd down. Was that the primary rotation? Smith on 1st and 2nd down and Durant on 3rd down?

Played very well. Will only get better.

I am waiting for a few certain posters to start dining on crow.

ESPECIALLY the one that kept claiming that Jaylon Smith would never play a meaningful game in the NFL.

I couldn't help but focus on him last night. I though he played well and will continue to get comfortable with more reps post injury. He does have trouble getting off blocks. On one play in the 2nd quarter he got driven up the field and off the screen. On a different play I thought he showed great speed/acceleration avoiding a lineman's block and chasing down the ball carrier.

I have not watched all of his plays. But I was carefully looking for him when I knew he was on the field (which was much of the time). He showed explosiveness. He seemed decent instincts-wise, but that is likely due to sitting out last season. He wasn't as quick to the hole as I expect he will be as he gets more comfortable. He wasn't too steady in his breakdown on a few plays as he approached the hole and he flat whiffed on one potential tackle at the line that ended up going for about 3 yards. But I'm nothing but encouraged. You can see the raw tools.

The real is back.

Hitchens going down has thrust Smith into a major role immediately at MLB. He's so up to it. Amazing player, runs fast and hits hard. His ability to dissect plays and anticipate is going to get better and better. The physical tools are off the charts. Caused a fumble last night and there will be a lot more.

Ok....gonna ask.

Was he wearing the brace? Can't tell for sure, but his left foot doesn't look all bandaged up.

We were told he would probably not need it sometime this year.

Overall I say his debut was a big success.

He needs to get his timing down to the speed of the game. This is expected at this point.
Seemed to over run a few tackles, but was there enough to disrupt the play. So either he was able to recover and / or slow them up enough to allow another player to get there for the tackle, or assist in it.

Laid the wood, caused a fumble on a clean hit. But it was taken away by the refs call.

Not sure on his planting his foot, cutting or any of that, maybe someone can elaborate on that.

Grade A+ just for getting on the field and able to make plays.

I'm pulling for the young man. We're expecting a lot from him right away and even if he doesn't quite live up to our expectations, he's a great grab for the Cowboys.

I think Michelle tofoya said before the game, he was wearing it.

He played much more than I anticipated. I think he fared very well and there is much to be optimistic about. Keep the kid clean from O-lineman and let him run to the ball.

Not trying to be rude, but does it really matter? He looked plenty fast and explosive. His few issues in the game weren't tied to mobility.

I thought he was great in his first game. Missed a couple of tackles, but made quite a few as well. And he hits hard. I jumped up and proposed to him through the tv when he chased down that RB. What a thing of beauty! :flagwave:

And seeing him and Sean Lee tag team that guy to force and recover a fumble is just a preview of how great their dynamic duo will be. So frakking excited!

Did he Swipe? I was waiting for that.

I agree he played much more than the boys let on before the game, I believe on radio I heard at most he would play half the snaps, that clearly was not the case not sure if that had to do with Durant or how well Smith was playing. The thing about his injury is that the next day will provide lots of feedback and hopefully he can push through that pain and be available on thursday against the Broncos.

Very happy with Jaylon performance last night and expect him to continue to improve. We still are talking about a guy who last played in a meaningful game was Jan 1st 2016. He was 2nd in tackles last night last night only behind Lee and had a forced fumble in the game

No. It doesn't. I was wondering because it really seems like he's moving so much better than we saw against the Colts and Raiders.

I thought maybe the brace was off and that was why. If it is off, that also is an indication he's almost 100 percent.

Again....just wondering.
