I couldn't help but focus on him last night. I though he played well and will continue to get comfortable with more reps post injury. He does have trouble getting off blocks. On one play in the 2nd quarter he got driven up the field and off the screen. On a different play I thought he showed great speed/acceleration avoiding a lineman's block and chasing down the ball carrier.
He's always had trouble getting off blocks.

Tackles for loss production doesn't match up with his traits. Too passive in his approach preferring to wait on plays rather than racing downhill to own them. Not strong enough at point of attack to maintain balance and positioning when blockers get into his frame. Understands angles to the ball, but still learning shortcuts through the gaps. Flies after the ball with reckless abandon failing to come to balance as a tackler. Has habit of lunging into arm tackles rather than using feet to work into better tackling position. Missed 11 tackles this year. Tore ACL and MCL in his bowl game and his rookie season is in doubt.

I keyed in on him from the stands a lot. I thought he played really well for a guy that's been through what he's been through. My biggest knock on him in this game is that he looked somewhat lost at times... didn't seem like his instincts for what was coming were there. Whatever happens, guy gets a pass for this season, as he's basically a rookie.

There is no factual evidence (not to my knowledge at least) that the ref blew the play dead...that's all speculation by Collinsworth..

As a matter of fact, the shear fact that the refs went through the pile and awarded the ball to the Giants would suggest the play was not blown dead

Looking at the box score - Sheppard was credited with a fumble..so it was not ruled dead
Did a Cowboy recover the ball?

Did a Cowboy recover the ball?

There was a clear recovery by sean Lee..then the ball was stripped from him..a challenge would have awarded Dallas the ball..no question

Silver lining in all of this..is we took the ball following the punt and drove down the field for a TD..it was the possession w the bogus PI call on Jenkins vs Dez..so it kind of evened out anyway

Garrett had his hand on his flag while the ref is talking to him. The visuals pretty much painted that picture.

The fact that the box score says Sheppard fumbled completely eliminates that as a possibility

Durant played only two snaps on defense. Jaylon played 36 (out of a possible 56). Lee played every snap, and Damien Wilson played 17.

I am curious if anyone has watched his isolated play in game 1. It seems liked he did OK from the game telecast.

I also noticed they subbed Durant in some on 3rd down. Was that the primary rotation? Smith on 1st and 2nd down and Durant on 3rd down?

Overall he had a solid game. He has not played in two years so he was a little hesitant on a couple plays. I think he is going to be very good for us for a really long time.

Jaylon will wear the brace all year, and will begin working without it next off-season.

He won't be back to 100% confidence until next year -- it almost always takes an athlete a full year to get back to a true 100%, even if their body is 100%.

That said...WOW. That play where he exploded on the end around and tackled the ball carrier? DAT SPEED THO.

Not trying to be rude, but does it really matter? He looked plenty fast and explosive. His few issues in the game weren't tied to mobility.
It matters in the sense of his overall potential.
I mean, if Jaylon is flying around with a brace on, my goodness, what's he going to be like without a brace moving and functioning at 100 percent? :omg:

That does not have any bearing on what the referee told Garrett in the moment, box scores are changed quite regularly post real time

There is no evidence at all to suggest what the ref told Garrett..you are taking what CC said as Gospel..and to be frank, his interpretation of what transpired was dumb
