He said regenerating, not firing. So who knows anymore. This is going to be a long offseason. Between this now, the Romo saga, and not to mention Zeke's never ending investigation.

I heard Greg Hardy is going to be posting here. Pass it on.

Called a "cornerstone" player by the owner, both Jones' believe Smith is a franchise pick that was worth taking the risk in the 2016 NFL Draft.

“I think the sky’s the limit,” Jones said. “I think he’s got a great opportunity, if he keeps on his current path, to be a dominant player for us. Now to say I expect that when he’s not there yet? That’s tough to have that expectation. But I think we do expect him to contribute and be a big part of our defense this year. The question is how physically well he gets by the start of next season in terms of some of what he still has hampering him somewhat.

"But our guys are convinced he can play in his current condition, and it should only improve as we go."

While the nerve in Smith's knee has begun to regenerate, there's still a ways to go.

Concerning.

It's a far different thing to do a video showing your cuts when you know where you're cutting, versus actually play when you're reacting to where somebody else is going.

What difference does that make? If you're cutting, you're cutting.

I'd take Jaylon w knee brace and all playing than half jags we have.

He may end up being no better than a JAG if he ever sees the field on game day which I'm still not convinced of.

Kids gonna over compensate for not having full control of his leg and wind up injured. Not his fault Dallas drafted him so high.

His nerve is getting on my last nerve.

I don't see how he will be better than a JAG with having drop foot either. We can hope, but at the end of the day, I can hope I win the lottery.

At this point I'm starting to lose interest. He has months to try to recover, I'm just not going nuts over every twitter about his bathroom schedule.

I wonder if we will treat pick 28 the same way as pick 34.

I seriously doubt it. We've been a lot smarter with our first round picks which is why a number of them have panned out. Our offense was built by making solid picks in the first round especially our OL. We've designated our second round picks as gambles on injured players, TEs to play behind Witten and drug addicts.

But Jaylon said he's getting "feeling" back into his leg. If he's getting feeling whereas before he had none, that's "firing" because that's what a nerve does, it sends "feeling" signals to a certain part of the body and prompts that body part to activate, move or perform its function.

Second, this topic is about Jaylon healing. Does it make sense to you for him to say "the leg is regenerating" and that NOT mean firing?

So what do you make of Jaylon's own statement that his nerve is firing?
Here's what he said:

"Yeah, it's regenerating," Smith said of his nerve in his left leg. "It's just a thing that you have to have patience. I'm going to continue to do everything I'm asked and controlling what I can control and we're going to take our time with it."

How does Smith know his nerve is regenerating in his leg? Is it because doctors have told him or is it something he's feeling now that he wasn't feeling before?

"Both. Doctors and tests all of that good stuff, feeling," Smith said. "There are things I didn't have before that I'm definitely getting now."
This reads pretty ambiguous to me: it's not at all a clear statement that the nerve is firing. Especially since he doesn't use the word "feeling" until the reporter uses it.

I'm of the opinion that if there were good news, we'd have heard about it in a clear way. We haven't, which suggests that there's nothing to report.

Once I started hearing about his injury and how some teams wouldn't touch him and that he likely won't play in 2016 that's when I lost interest. I said the day we drafted him that I didn't like the pick and that I'm not going to get my hopes up with him. Highly unlikely he'll ever get back to the level he was in college and once we reach training camp, the realization may hit that he just can't play with his situation. I know the team/Jerry will try everything possible to get him on the field to try and get something out of him so he's not a complete waste of a premium pick but it won't surprise me if he never plays a down for us. Not saying he won't but it won't surprise me if he doesn't.

True. I trust Fisher over Rappoport by a mile.

YR

Trust who you want but none of this is encouraging news. The facts are Smith is still rehabbing an injury he suffered 14 months ago in college.

Its a wait and see thing with me. Some players I can see what we need to do, but the reason his threads are so long is cause noone really knows with Jaylon.

Whatever word we use for whats going on with his nerve, he's still wearing that brace. Until he is running around with it off, all of this is just the noise from dial-up internet.

For me, if Jaylon had said nothing about his nerve, then I would give the "sourced" articles more credence. But Jaylon has spoken. He may be lying, but I really don't see any motive for him to lie because if the nerve isn't firing and he says it is, he'll simply have to eat his words later.

To me, there's really no big advantage he gets out of lying. And by constantly twitting about it in cryptic ways, he's pissing off a large segment of Cowboy Nation and teasing the other part. Again, I don't see any reason why he'd lie. The Cowboys aren't going to cut him even if he's not ready to go this year. They have him for four/five years. His upside is TREMENDOUS. They'll wait for him.
