I seriously doubt it. We've been a lot smarter with our first round picks which is why a number of them have panned out. Our offense was built by making solid picks in the first round especially our OL. We've designated our second round picks as gambles on injured players, TEs to play behind Witten and drug addicts.

Pick 34 is barely a 2nd rd pick. Shouldn't be a gambling chip.

Its a wait and see thing with me. Some players I can see what we need to do, but the reason his threads are so long is cause noone really knows with Jaylon. Whatever word we use for whats going on with his nerve, he's still wearing that brace. Until he is running around with it off, all of this is just the noise from dial-up internet.

The threads are long because of the anticipation by many FANS that Smith will get back to the level he was in college and because they draw a lot of naysayers who have doubts and didn't like the pick. It's creates a lot of debate. The video that was posted recently of Smith got many all lathered up. This latest news is a blow to many but it has no affect on me because I was never counting on him. If he's anything less than the player he was in college, we won't be getting what everyone hoped for. We didn't draft him to be 60 to 70% of what he was.

It's almost like a first round pick. That was the highest second round pick we've had in years and we may have blown it on another player many had high hopes for. If he doesn't pan out it will be back to back blown second round picks on the defensive side of the ball, which is the side of the ball we can least afford a miss. DLaw our second round pick in 2014, looks like he may end up being another defensive casualty. Escobar our second round pick from 2013 has been a bust.

Not surprised by this news but I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Smith never lied about the nerve regenerating IMO but that is different than firing. I think the nerve is "trying" to connect with the muscle(his feeling of sensations) but has failed thus far. It may successfully fire one day but as time goes on.......the chances get less and less for a full recovery at this point.

I did not like the pick at the time but grew fond of it eventually. If he has to play with a brace, I don't expect much from him as an NFL player :(

I like how you used the word "lathered"

Yep. DLaw was really our 2nd and 3rd pick.

Except Jaylon said he's getting "feeling" back in his leg. That's "firing". Whereas he felt nothing before because the nerve was dead, he's now starting to feel sensations. That's what a nerve is supposed to do, carry "feeling" messages to the rest of the body and activate biological responses.

The sensations he is feeling is due to the regenerating nerve. While good news, it should have been fully regenerated 6-7 months ago. He is not feeling anything associated with the nerve firing. If and when the nerve fires, he will have feeling in his foot and should begin to be able to move it. What he has described is tingling in his knee which can give us hope that the nerve fully regenerates and fires but there is still no guarantee it ever will or that he will ever play a down.

It's a word that pretty much described the reaction FANS had to that Jaylon Smith video. Amazing what conclusions were reached based off his foot drop and toe position. Some already had him in our ROH based on his jump and the position of his foot. Didn't realize you could gage how many Pro Bowls he'll have based on that.

And LB just became a need equal to DE. For the love of God, please don't let the Cowboys rely on some miracle ability to play with drop foot. They have to draft someone who can start or sign one in FA, or probably both.

"Yeah, it's regenerating," Smith said of his nerve in his left leg. "It's just a thing that you have to have patience. I'm going to continue to do everything I'm asked and controlling what I can control and we're going to take our time with it."

How does Smith know his nerve is regenerating in his leg? Is it because doctors have told him or is it something he's feeling now that he wasn't feeling before?

"Both. Doctors and tests all of that good stuff, feeling," Smith said. "There are things I didn't have before that I'm definitely getting now."

What's that regenerating sensation feel like?

"It feels like it's coming back," Smith said, smiling.

Smith said he's running a 4.5-second 40-yard dash now as most of his speed has returned. He also said his change-of-direction sprinting has been positive.

Funny you look at med websites and when they talk about drop foot most can barely walk and yet Jaylon is doing a lot more than just walking around.

So what are they going to do with the Canton bust of Jaylon Smith that was already sculpted?

Not ready to put him in Canton how about those who want to put him on the scrape heap? Injury or no injury Jaylon as a lot to prove as any player entering the NFL. Sure I see some positives that others care not to see which is a kid who is eager and working hard. Watching him go through drills is encouraging as he is running, cutting and jumping and doing so with no problems. I know people will bring up the brace he is currently using but does not change the fact of what he is doing. 4.5 40 with a brace?

Internet doctors like Fuzzy claimed he could have been in training camp LAST YEAR. I guess we should just leave it to the experts, huh?

This is what happens when we build through the draft on defense.

And you know all this how? Are you a doctor?
