Not what i wanted to hear. A blow to our defense IF true.

And btw whats up with "we wasted a 2nd rd pick". Teams miss on picks all the time. I doubt any team has 100% effectiveness when it comes to drafting. Yea we may have gambled, but we also hit possibly on a francise QB in the 4th!

And you know all this how? Are you a doctor?

Because I read all the articles that have been written about Jaylon and he said the sensations he was feeling were associated with the nerve regenerating. If it was actually refiring and he could feel his foot, everyone would be in front of a microphone explaining how much smarter they are than everybody else.

Agreed on the the Dak pick. What I don't agree on is the assumption that the pick sucked, was wasted, etc.. I'll ignore everyone's opinion and make my own judgement when Jaylon's career is over. Heck, it could already be over but until we all see something to turn these opinions into facts, 2016's 2nd round pick is TBD. Personally, I'll enjoy watching the crow eaters doing their work. They've had enough practice recently so their eating skillz will make for an entertaining watch.

Lots of overanalysis of Jaylon's videos....just as much overanalysis of what Rappaport is saying.

In reading what Stephen said, I got no sense whatsoever that Jaylon's nerve was NEVER going to fire. I didn't read that anywhere. Has is fired? No. Will it fire? I don't know. And neither do any of you.

What Stephen did say was that they feel he could play with the brace...AND...that their people expected him to GET BETTER!

Does that sound like his nerve has fired? NO! Does that sound like it will never fire? NO!

And to the people saying that it should have fired 6-7 months ago...Where did you get this? In nothing I read from Dr. Cooper's analysis did he say anything other than it would take over a year.

So what do you make of Jaylon's own statement that his nerve is firing?
Honestly, I think the kid doesn't know but he's trying to stay optimistic and keep the fans hopeful. I hope I'm wrong, but I truly believe if the nerve was firing we would have heard something definitive from the organization. Either Jason or Dr. Cooper.

I would bet he would have a pretty good idea if he is getting feeling back. I think someone said that in the recovery phase the muscles and nerve need to catch up to each other? I might have that wrong, but I would think he would know based on sensations he is feeling which he did mention in an interview.

There is a lot of overreacting in this thread based off Raps tweet. I didn't get any impression from SJ that his nerve was never going to fire.

Personally I think he is getting sensation back, and that he might need the brace as everything needs to work together again, and who knows how long that can take?

Bummer "news" but I'm still optimistic. Whoever said it's a double whammy due to being disappointed by the pick, but now disappointed for the young man hit the nail on the head.

I hope this thing does fire and that he can play with the brace but they may want to address LB properly regardless.

Best post I've read in this thread! People are so quick to jump to a conclusion based off of a tweet. Rappaport may have info we don't....or he may just want a story. But if you listen to SJ, he never seems to give any indication to Smith's knee not improving. He even says their people expect it to improve. "The sky's the limit!"

You don't say that about a guy you don't feel will never have feeling in the foot.

I simply think we're being wise here. Approach the situation as if he will have to play with the brace.

Man our defense has been taking huge hits for the past few seasons. McClain, Hardy, Gregory didn't pan out due to mental/ drug issues. Lawrence with the back and drug issues. Potentially busting on the Jaylon pick. Mo can't stay on the field. FO jumped the gun on dishing out $$$ to often banged up crawford. I mean, if these guys were contributing effectively and reliably, this defense would be dynamic!!! There would definitely be multiple war daddies!!!

Internet doctors like Fuzzy claimed he could have been in training camp LAST YEAR. I guess we should just leave it to the experts, huh?

Huh? If that is what you got out of what I said then that is sad

Your issue is that you struggle with the notion of probabilities. I have repeatedly talked about Jaylon's future as a set of probable outcomes based on the nature of his injury with the information we have had at hand.

I said it was possible that the muscle would innervate starting around 8 months post op which would have been that August. I never feigned certainty.

Perhaps you should get an expert to read what I write to put it in terms that you can understand.

So to some up this thread and the previous other Smith threads.

We still don't really have a clue what the hell is going on.

We know exactly what's going on.

He suffered an injury that doesn't have a true timetable for return, and he's trying to work his way back.

The only confusion is people that seemed to think his recovery timetable would somehow magically line up with the NFL calendar.

And to think we passed on Myles Jack for this...:banghead:

Yeah because Jack ripped it up this past season. He played like 20% of their snaps.

If you want to lament a player we could have had that could have helped us and appears to have a bright future that we passed on for Smith, that guy would more likely be Spence.

I don't see what the overanalysis is. I saw Jaylon pick his foot up jumping hurdles. I posted pictures of the range of motion he was going through. It doesn't get more direct or simple as far as evidence is concerned.

Stephen also said that things have happened that have made them even more confident that he was going to realize his potential and that he continues to improve. Other than the peroneal strengthening I am not sure what else there it to improve.

What I think is that when all the reports came out in late November that his nerve "started to regenerate" acting like that was news was when he started regaining motor function. I think since then he has continually gotten better.

An unqualified, anonymous source from Rappaport isn't going to change my mind regarding something that I have seen with my own two eyes.

This right here will get lost in this thread. Jaylon said he was getting feeling back, and you can see he is regaining motor function. I don't get all the doom and gloom based off of Raps tweet.

Based on What Jalen has been saying I feel confident he is improving, and thats all you can ask for right now.

The fact that hes running a 4.4-4.5 40 right now, when 90% of the lb in the league cant, brace or no brace is all i need to feel positive.

The fact that he said he thinks he could play now at an elite level is big, He knows what he can do more than anyone, its not like he doesnt realize what is required to play football?

Did some of you guys watch this guy? He could dominate at 80% no doubt, still be bigger faster and better than 90% of his peers. Its like someone put Dexter Coakley and his heat-sinking missle speed and fire in Rolando Mclains body!

That said, looking back at the second round last year, it wasnt that great imo.

Even if Jalen busts, we didnt miss out on much imo, Michael Thomas was the one guy I second guess over.

Jack hasn't doen jack, , Spence, no thanks!

The guys who went right before our picks were solid, but I dont see much otherwise to cry over
.
Dion Jones in hindsight?
Eh, whatever!

Im riding w Jalen all day long!
