I don't blame him for his inexperience...I think that he DID get experience this year puts him ahead of what his development would have been

...I kinda like the guy, I just wish he wasn't forced into starting when he didn't even make the roster initially

I've been wanted to start a thread on this but never got around to it. I couldn't figure out for the life of me how come after Wilcox returned from injury Heath was starting in the base defense?

Wilcox seemed to be doing ok when get got the nod before he went down. Heath was just a non NFL talent out there. Not saying he can't improve, but guy was brutal this season.

He is just one of those players you see on lots of rosters that are scheme-sound but not as athletic as they need to be. My guess is that Wilcox's tendency to be a bull in a china shop was more of a liability to a defensive scheme that needs players to be where they are supposed to be.

But it is fairly clear teams knew they could throw at him with jump balls ever since the destruction at the hands of Calvin Johnson.

I think the kid has a place in the league. Some guys shouldn't be starting, but it doesn't mean they can't be contributors in some fashion. Heath might be a special teams demon... maybe? But when you bank on stuff such as Matt Johnson, you get fun things like Jason Avant playing Megatron.

Heath need to spend mega time on practicing BB rebounding skills. He has a nice vertical but his timing is usually off.

Please do not mention Matt Johnson. I hope he is completely ignored when they sit down to self-evaluate the roster. But I fear they will think he is like an extra 2014 draft choice.

In analyzing the Cowboy vs other teams, one of their downfalls has been the over-dependence on stopgap veterans. This leads to a lack of development of young players because the stopgap vets get all of the valuable playing time that the young players need to get experience. Stopgaps like Will Allen get you 8-8 and then they are too old the following seasons and you don't have anyone with experience to take over which leads to another stopgap veteran.

This was a better 8-8 season than some other 8-8 seasons because many young players gained valuable experience. They won't all be successful because of the experience, but the more that get experience the better the odds of hitting on some successes.

Like the commentary on 8-8 season. I feel better about this one than priors due to the testing of depth new faces aspect in an otherwise down year

I see no skills. Well except for just being in the right place at the right time to get a turnover.

That's not a bad skill. Slowpoke Everson Walls made a very good career out of it.

About Heath, I think he has potential to be a contributor. Church was in the same situation and didn't have a great first year, either. But Heath was on the field for way too many snaps. Meanwhile, Kyle Orton was soaking up millions of dollars and drinking martinis on the bench.

He'll be selling insurance this time next year.

I bet he's on an NFL roster next year. He's just an undrafted rookie, and had no business being out there at this early stage in his development.
I'll wait a year or two to see if he progresses as a backup.

He struggled in coverage, but who in our secondary didn't with no pass rush. He came from Saginaw Valley, division II...the fact that he started and played so much hurt us, but will benefit him in the future. You arm-chair coaches have it totally wrong. He won't be challenged for a roster spot. He may not start next year if Johnson or Wilcox step up or if we bring in another safety, but he will be valuable depth and special teamer for several years. He already beat the odds.

He is low level rook on a team with no pass rush, no coaching.. He definitely isn't the worst IMO..

Oh, I am a little soft on the guy because of him completely ignoring Cousin's hand to help him up after he put him down. LOL.. That gets points in my book.

Horrific player. I absolutely can not stand that player. He's awful. I don't think I've seen a worse player at tracking and playing the ball.

UDFA thrown into action. He's got some promise. Just to early to play.

Really this thread needs to be about the little thing we did wrong early. That was release Will Allen. Stabilizing mediocre player. Would have helped a bit when we were rolling with Jakar and others at S.

No way worst player I the nfl, maybe you didn't see Carr post megatron. Heath needs some coaching, but he likes to put his nose in the play when he can.
