If this was being said by some sad behind the times fantasy football player we would all laugh and shake our heads. This is being said by an NFL General Manager. With a straight face.

I'm telling you Jerry Jones thinks Zeke Elliott can still deliver as a number one running back. Especially now with the offensive lineman acquisition.

2024 is clearly a throwaway season.
this is what I believe also which sucks as a player. Jerry should of fired McCarthy and cleaned house after the stinker vs the packers in a HOME playoff game. Instead we just seem to be going with the current until his contract expires (after next season). And then probably let Dak go too. And who knows what we will do with Ceedee and Micah. We can't have everyone commanding top dollar.

RBs are one of the easiest to find in every round of the draft including undrafted guys. Sure late round guys aren't a given like the top backs.

With a good OL, you can find a RB.

I think teams should draft one and after their 3-5 years is up, draft another one
I agree with your premise generally but there’s also a lot of busts drafted in the later rounds too. So if they draft a RB who isn’t good. We are up a creek without a paddle considering the rest of the room isn’t every good either.

Because we have the only completely untouchable GM and son who are completely comfortable throwing whole seasons away. I’ve never seen a top shelf front office with “lifetime contracts” have big time success in the cap era.

When you have no accountability at the top, it’s completely acceptable to waste whole seasons and even the careers of hall of fame level players. Because there’s no pressure to do anything you don’t want to. Meanwhile 31 other owners hire professional GMs and hold them accountable to win or they’re gone.

If a ten year old playing fantasy football says “Zeke Elliott is my #1 RB next year” you chuckle and give him a break. When an 81 year old NFL GM says it, you call in the guys with white coats and escort him off the property to a nice comfortable place of rest.
I've got to admit that I will enjoy seeing the Zeke bashers banging their heads on their keyboards.

The last I read, backs drafted on the last day of the draft have around a 10 percent success rate.

I like Zeke. Especially as a former Cowboy. As a current Cowboy being called RB1? It’s not bashing Zeke to say the truth. He’s not a RB1 anymore. At least not in the NFL.
I wasn't talking about you, and I'm not saying I will be happy if he's RB1. I'm sure he's still a hard-charging, physical runner who's not easy to bring down in the backfield, but he had limited wheels to start with and the last two years have shown he has none left. Defenses will play a tight box and dare us to run outside. Of course, with all but a few of the RBs left in the draft, the story would be the same. And the ones who do have wheels have other question marks.

Dak to Lamb. That'll be our only offense next year. We aren't winning without a running game and with a tougher schedule-we'd be lucky to win 6 or 7 games. I guess this is a tank season.

I agree we can Not win without a good running game.

I do like, if this is their plan, that the line picks may allow us to have a lot of power up the middle with Tyler, Beebe and Martin. If they can move bodies up front, it will at least force defenses to pinch down, which should open up the outside passing game on play action. Of course, the negative side of that is they will be able to let players attack the line from the perimeter because they don't have to worry about Elliott getting to the outside and breaking off a big run.
