I don't hate making a trade for a younger guy who can learn and develop in your system....the issue I have is making this kind of move when you have no idea who will be coaching or what type of system you'll have a year from now.

Is it possible that Jerry is planning on keeping McCarthy? If not why not let the next coach pick their own players?
It's also possible the next coach is one who told Jerry to make the trade .........

Risky trade but Mingo’s raw talent is better than anything you’d get in the 4th round. This move makes Cooks expendable after the season and allows the team to focus on the trenches/RB with their top 3 picks.
TIRED OF RAW players, we need players that are good!!!!! Guyton has RAW talent and you see where that's getting us

And at the end of the day, all this tells the team is it's status quo for Jerry. More concerned with finding a way to be affordable (Cooks won't be re-signed most likely) than winning this year (when that is what you continue to verbalize even if it is a delusional thought now).

No necessarily, we have 9 weeks to find out how bad he sucks. I don't think we should pass up a good wr because we got Carolinas bust.

This seems like an admission from the front office that Turpin and Brooks aren't NFL caliber WRs, and Tolbert is probably a 4th WR. So they show desperation here and get fleeced.
Tolbert also only has one more year on his contract. First two years we got nothing out of him. This year he’s finally looking like an avg #3/4 WR, but the season is shot. He will have one more year and be gone.

 I bet the rest of the league absolutely loves when they have a player they want to move.

"Hey, call the Jones' boys!! See what kind of pick you can get from them!"

"Hey, Jerry, I have X on the trade block. NY offered me a 7th...........a 4th? You have yourself a deal!"

I am going to defend Jerry on this post. It may be the first and last time i defend him. Diontae Johnson is in the last year of his contract and will be a free agent next year. He would most likely be gone to another team next year meaning we just threw away draft picks if we traded for Johnson. Mingo is still on a rookie contract and is under contract for 2025 and 2026. This isn't a move to necessarily win this year but a move to maybe help in 2025 and 2026. Whether this is a good trade or not depends on whether Mingo can come in and be a 2nd or 3rd WR next year. I remember liking this guy when he was at Ole Miss.

you get 4 years of control with your 4th round pick at a cheaper contract. You also have had 2 years to look at Mingo & he's done nothing. It's bad trade.
