Felix Jones has that bubble butt you look for in a running back.......you just can't make up the stupidity that comes out of Jerry's mouth
Cooper has always been a very good route runner, actually better than Julio at Bama.
I would say he's the best pure route runner the Cowboys have had since Lance Alworth and part of his routes included going airborne, a trait Lynn Swann picked up.
Much of Irvin's route running consisted of muscling and pushing off, Cooper is more agile and fluid.
Cooper is a lot like Alworth in the way he uses his skill not his size to get the edge. They both used the combination of quickness and speed to get in and out of the cuts. Cooper is actually accelerating out of the cut. Dez's problem was he was too stiff and had to decelerate in his cuts to keep from losing his balance.
The WR's that used their quickness and speed into and out of cuts, when they really weren't speed merchants, so effectively were Rice and Harrison. How many times did you ask yourself 'hell, everyone on the planet knew they were going to him, how did he get open'?
I like Cooper, always have because of his demeanor, like most Bama boys, but I think the ancillary benefit of acquiring him is the acceleration on the learning curve for a very promising Michael Gallup. He has what it takes to be the best #2 the Cowboys ever had.
I have to agree with Lance Alworth he ran fantastic routes but from what Cooper has shown he may be very close.Cooper has always been a very good route runner, actually better than Julio at Bama.

They were not as good but Glenn was the closest to Cooper. Harper wasn't a great route runner as TB discovered when they thought he could be their #1.Forgetting Drew Pearson and Alvin Harper and Terry Glenn, are we?

Just needs to do it a long time because that seems to be a trait of great route runners, longevity.I have to agree with Lance Alworth he ran fantastic routes but from what Cooper has shown he may be very close.

The only thing that bothers me about Jerry the owner is his continued employment of Jerry the GM.I'd rather have any other owner than Jerry.
If Jerrah says it..
It's that same thing that has been around since FA began. Teams are attracted to players on SB teams. Larry Brown was good but he got paid great from that one SB game against PIT. Harper got the same thing. Good players on great team are perceived to be better than they really are.Misunderstood then, I like Gallup quite a bit and think he will be a better #2 than Williams was but we've been blessed with some of the most talented WR's to ever play in the NFL. Harper is a strong #2 but he lacked the toolbox to be a #1, not sure how the Bucs didn't see that.

That's like the Cowboys taking players off great teams in college and not considering the whole. Did that with Claiborne and Spears. They played on better D's at LSU than the Cowboys had. They hit a homer taking a great player, Ware, off of an OK team.
I watch Gallup and he seems to have more zip than the usual #2 like Williams and Harper and Tony Hill was more the longball guy but he was great at that.
When Cooper was at his best in OAK, he had Crabtree as an 1A and Gallup shows some promise.
But my mostest favoritist thing about Cooper is his demeanor. No diva, the man comes to play the game with his teammates. His coaches and fellow players at Bama loved him. A WR actually acting as if he's part of the team and not above it.
If you were a fan in the mid 80's you would remember Mike Renfro, not Mel. who was a receiver for the Oilers, then DC for a short stint. Great quickness and precision (which is a large part of route running) and great hands before the advantage of gloves came into the NFL.mel renfro
I’m old enough to have watched Pearson and obviously Irvin
Both HOF quality receivers
But as a pure route runner neither had the same skill set as cooper does
I’m talking purely route running not production or other skills
Irvin was a master of using his body to fend off the DB and was very productive but he was not the same type of receiver
Beasley is very quick in and out of his cuts but has no where near the speed
Cooper's route running is just ridiculous.
One of the best I've probably seen as well. His routes are smooth and violent at the same time.
I was referring just to route runningIf you were a fan in the mid 80's you would remember Mike Renfro, not Mel. who was a receiver for the Oilers, then DC for a short stint. My opinion great route running is also giving the QB a clean pocket or target and coming up with the catch in and out of traffic. Drew Pearson wrote in the book in the NFL on running routes, esp. sideline patterns. Before putting Cooper in the DC ROF, you have to measure body of work and we have only seen Cooper in a few games. In Oakland he was not used well so I'm excluding that body of work. Not saying Cooper is below these others but with all due respect, let's give him a season before we crown him the best "route runner" to ever wear the star.
There's nothing that can't be worse, even though I also hate Teh Jerruh I think I'd rather have him than Snyder...I'd rather have any other owner than Jerry.
I'll give you that. If you want speed, I could throw Bob Hayes into the mix but he was only running posts, flys, flags and occasionally hook patterns. It's hard to compare old to new players since routes are more scientific, turf, shoes...etc are much improved. Going over the middle was a death sentence and now a walk in the park. Players are more athletic and fulltime these days as well. Hope Jerry becomes right in the long run.I was referring just to route running
Not his body of work
I’ve never seen a guy runs routes as well as he does and have speed too
Beasley runs great routes but doesn’t have speed to stretch those catches
Lots of guys know how to get open. Witten was great at it but he did it differently
Those cuts Cooper makes are pretty amazing and he has size and speed to go with it
