There is no coach who can succeed here as long as Jerry micromanages them. The new hc will not have the power Jimmy had, not even a fraction of that power. That's the terrible flaw having a hc that lacks the power to hire and fire because it produces players and assistant coaches who all report to and fear Jerry, not the hc. Jerry and son have 99% of the power because that is the Jones cartel model. It's been almost 30 years sans a conf playoff appearance and it doesn't faze Jerry in the least. As long as he gets to play with his multi-billion dollar toy train (ie, the team), he's happy and that's his top priority. He can never allow a hc to come in and give them meaningful power because it takes credit away from the man who has solely put us in the this ridiculous 28 seasons in a row and no nfc championship appearance.

Jimmy's legacy is legendary while this image best sums up Jerry's legacy.

This team needs a completely revamped defense. We have nothing at DT, MLB, and safeties outside of Wilson suck bad. The middle of our defense from top to bottom needs cleaned out.

Belichick will be 72 years old at the start of next season. He is not a long term solution.

I'm 61 and I have loved this team since birth and half of my Cowboys football life I watched this idiot run this team into the ground. I remain a fan because I am loyal but about ten years ago I diverted all my Cowboys sports dollars into the Dallas Stars, Dallas Mavericks, and Texas Rangers (all have own championships since the Cowboys won last championship). Why? Because I can vote with my wallet and the other three teams have owners who really want to win, not just pay lip service about wanting to win.

The Cowboys are what Jerry has made them, a punchline and the laughingstock of the league. And Jerry and all of us fans deserve all the grief Stephan A throws at us because he is 100% right and winning will shut Stephan A up. But we ain't making a deep playoff run as long a Jones owns the team. Almost 30 years of evidence speaks for itself and Stephan Jones might be a more arrogant version of his idiot dad.

I might start buying Texans gear - look at what they've done in a year with a hc with real power.

"A fool and his money are soon parted", and that's how I view any Cowboys fan that keeps putting money in Jerry's Johnny Walker Blue-soaked pockets.

Thinking Jerry Jones is mad like we are as fans means you don’t understand Jerry Jones. I doubt if he feels embarrassed or even strongly considering making BIG changes.

Look- I don’t know how many times it will take fans here to understand that Jerry Jones does not think like a fan. He thinks like a guy who wants first and foremost to play with his toy every day any way he sees fit. And he will always look for a head coach - first and foremost - to make him feel comfortable doing what he wants to do.

Every fan who thinks “Jerry is mad” and is going to fire McCarthy doesn’t realize that’s not what he’s thinking tonight. He’s wondering if he can still keep Big Mac around for his comfort while hoping fans will forget by July that this even happened.

I expect come July we will have an 81 year old Jerry Jones smiling broadly at his “State of the Cowboys“ address in “Ox-nerd” telling us his high expectations and why we should all buy sand from him again in this desert called “the last 28 years.”

And the fans will come back in droves.

Our timetable doesn’t require a long term solution. We need a quick fix as the next go round after this next move will be a complete rebuild.

The “he can’t win without Brady” is exactly why he will take this job.
He would be remembered as the all time greatest coach in NFL history if we won a title with Dak Preschoke. If he got Preschoke to not choke in the playoffs that would destroy the narrative of “it was all Brady”. Personally I hope he accepts the challenge.

I disagree.

The rebuild needs to happen now. We are not contenders at the moment.

It fits Jerry's profile to a tee, that he'd decide to reach out and try righting his ship with the Parcells-Belichickean school of coaching again. Another promising season, followed by the frustrating, humiliating early exit in the tournament. So, quickly hire a coach with impressive NFL cred to begin "a new era."

Someone needs to tell Ol Jerry that if he'd take a deeper and more sober look, he might find the problem is more than a Head Coach. A performance review of his GM is a good start.

Full rebuild takes tanking or being godawful. You need to be drafting at the top of the round in every round for a couple of years.

I’m fine with a rebuild I just don’t subscribe to the notion that it’s something you can just “do” without regard to your current roster or where the team will perform without completely trying to sabotage the results which the Cowboys would never do.

I have always said I would love to have Harbaugh coach this team. Exactly what they need IMO…toughness and discipline. Not sure what I think about Belichick.

Yeah, the guy that took about ten years or so to win a Natty and had to cheat his azz off to do it. He was suspended 6 games this season. Then again, Bellicheat isn't much different.
He had much success in SF. Got them to a SB with freakin Kaepernick.

Perhaps in the NFL in the past. Nowadays it seems as though teams turnaround quicker.

We know this team will not get it done so we need to change it. This team isn't a piece or two away. They need wholesale changes.

Trotting out this same squad minus a few players is just wasting time. Make moves. Do what you have to do to trade up in the draft. Free up money and get some free agents in here and do something different.
