Jerry Jones: McFadden Earned Right To Start

You're probably right about Blocking being the reason Michael can't get on the field.

He will learn though.

As much as our coaches suck the 1 thing they have always been good at is getting our RB's to block well.

Whether it's been Felix Jones, Dunbar, or Joseph Randle, they have always turned these guys into average at worst blockers when they started out as horrible.

Michael has the ability to knock people on their *** at the Point of attack so it's only a matter of time before he figures it out here as well.

Yup

This is the play where he blocked. (8:57 2Q).

It was not a blitz pickup. It was a chip block. It appeared to be a designed chip block to make it appear as if he was staying in to block but he then released and caught a pass. It was an interesting play in that Tyron intentionally had a short set to allow for the chip block.

Got it. Thanks man.

Exactly. All the "intangibles" no one can accurately quantify positively attributed to Garrett by his supporters is garbage in the big picture.

Nobody in the national media said "good job" until the 12 wins last year. Wins are everything.

Yep.. I think he does a good job Monday-Saturday but honestly I don't really know.

I just know what I see on Sunday and it always has signs of a poorly coached team.

We are completely player dependent on Sundays.

I personally feel like Will McClay has done an excellent job getting the groceries and if Romo isn't here to help cook the rest of the cooks don't know where to start.

Got it. Thanks man.

He showed good physical ability to slow a DL but the issue for most RBs in Pass Pro is whether or not they can find the blitzing defender in time to make the block (i.e. The mental side is normally a bigger issue than the physical side, especially for RBs with good size).

Yup. It is also knowing where the blitzer will most likely appear based upon the designed protection. So not only does he have to know the play, he also needs to know the offense blocking design on pass pro. He's coming along. Not a worry.

I am happy for McFadden.

That said, my sense of it was that we were just going to be able to run against NY period. Regardless of who the back was.

After all, Randle was averaging 12 yards per carry before he went out.

It seems odd that he didn't get more than 5 carries. I have to assume that pass blocking might be an issue that is keeping him off the field.

C-Mike played 7 snaps and 5 were rushes and 1 was a reception. That only leaves 1 snap were he played without touching the ball. That points to him either having pass pro issue or not knowing the plays in general.

I've seen some tweets from Brian B hinting that the OC doesn't trust him because he's not fully understanding the playbook

Yeah I don't really know man. No one not coaching the Cowboys truly knows. All I know is his carries were up last game and I hope they continue to increase. He is the perfect change of pace to DMC and using him in that capacity keeps our running backs fresh all game long.

It was weird to see him rush or catch the ball but to not be on the field the play before or after that play. They normally only switch out RBs like that if it's 3rd down.

I get the feeling that the scouts or front office like him more than the coaches or at least some coaches. I don't know if it's Garrett or Linehan or possibly the RB coach or all of them that don't trust him. The RB coach did talk him up but that's generally what position coaches do when asked about a specific player.

They've had other players in the past where the scouts/front-office disagreed with the coaches or where coaches disagreed with each other on that players ability and trustworthiness.

Yeah. There could be a bit of a trust thing there with the coaches but I think that is naturally working itself out with each occasion where he's on the field and nothing disastrous occurs.

We have to tell ourselves that we are talking about a RB that has only been in our system for 4 weeks. He hasn't had a full offseason (like DMC) or multiple years (like Randle) to understand not only the plays but also the oline's blocking schemes.

Garrett is part of the problem. He's been part of the problem. He offers nothing.

He may be excellent Monday-Saturday.. I don't know if he is or not but I think he is.

I do know he is awful on game days and puts us behind our opponent.

If Romo is playing then it cancels out the Garrett factor and pretty much anyone, including Wade Phillips, can have success with a Tony Romo QBing their team.

The guy puts us 2 steps behind always.

When we find something that works and the league catches up with us then it takes a lot of losing and stubbornness to finally try to get a step ahead again.

I always concern myself more with the Monday through Saturday stuff, anyway. But I also just don't agree that he's awful on game days. He's good with the on-field decisions like challenges, and he's gotten so much better with clock management. We're an above average team in that regard at this point. Philosophically, I don't like the design of his offense all that much, either, but part of the reason he's so conservative is that he's got players in there he doesn't trust. He just doesn't believe in taking risks when the odds aren't in his favor or we're in the very last drive or two of the game. It's frustrating to watch, but more often than not, it's the right way to play the odds.

this is it

I'm glad so many have finally lost faith in Garrett.

It's about time everyone saw the light.

I haven't lost faith in Garrett. I just think that not wearing out his tailback is a flaw he has and I don't see that not happening if we continue to run the ball well.

I still want him as a coach of this team and I think at this current time he is a very good coach.

Someone claimed that C-Mike made some blocks in Pass Pro but I don't remember seeing that; although, it have not looked specifically to verify.

I didn't count each play. But I was paying attention for most of the snaps and never saw any. Maybe I missed a few.

I looked it up. He played 7 total snap. Five were runs and one was a pass to him. That only leaves 1 snap for any possible pass block.
