Jerry Jones on Carr

I hate to see the team add years on his contract. He is an overpaid , average CB that could and should be upgraded within the next couple of years.

He's overpaid to be sure, but that's why they're looking to rework his contract. But after a shaky start, I thought his level of play improved significantly, especially in the two playoff games. Neither Calvin Johnson, nor Jordy Nelson - two of the league's best receivers - did much against Carr in either of those contests. He played his best when it mattered most.

I would much rather come to a mutually beneficial compromise than to cut him outright and make the cornerback position even more shaky.

Rob had to have his CBs. An overpayed Carr and a bust named Mo was the players he wanted. I would love to pour hot grease on Ryan.

That's a bit harsh, isn't it?

Now that we are past June 1st, sure. We are also past the point at which $8M could be used to bring players in because there's nobody of real value to bring in at this point. So I guess they would roll it over to next year to cover the $7.5M in dead money that's left over.

Some people still believe that the Cowboys will trade for a certain veteran players. I won't mention the name to avoid derailing the thread.

The could use extra cap space if they sign a player like T. Crawford to a new contact.

And that $2.5 is what a team can typically take into a season to cover for injury replacements and the like.

There is no urgent need to create a huge chunk of cap space, especially for a RB trade since there isn't going to be one.

No one said it was an urgent need. That is why they haven't made a decision yet. If Dez gets signed they may have the cap space they want. If Mo comes back healthy they need Carr even less. How fast will BJones a

Will Dez ever re-sign? That will open up cap space.

Will Mo come back healthy? Less need for Carr.

Will BJones adjust quickly enough to the pros?

I'd like to see a re-work, obviously. It'd be in our best interests, of course.

But we're Super Bowl contenders, even if Carr doesn't budge, he's not going anywhere.

That is the dilemma.

You can't play hardball with DWare, Murray, Free, Hardy and Dez and then let Carr get away with under performing at 12.7m

Good point as all of them contributed more in their role , or highly likely will with Hardy, than Carr

Then you probably want to dismember jerry...............

No, at least Jerry is entertaining . He is a great owner. I have always believed that, but Jerry's problems start when he makes football decisions and tries to evaluate talent. That is the part of Jerry that causes the terrible trades and bad contracts.

my problem with Carr is that he has really been bad up until the end of last season. CJ set records against the guy in the previous meeting. He is a player that needs upgrading, but it would create another hole that can't be filled this year. I sure don't want him extended and have to suffer through his below average play any longer than possible. If he would play like he did at the end of last season on a consistent level, I would be okay with extending him. As for Rob, he was the one that pushed for these CB moves and hot grease was the first thing that came to mind lol. I borrowed that line from the movie "The nutty Professor". Maybe it is a little harsh now that I have thought about it lol.

Hot grease. That is when you know the hate is for keeps.

I don't hate him, but he is one of those blowhard Ryans. I rate him just ahead of Kiffin as the worse DCs in recent memory . Hate is such a strong word and you know that I am a sensitive person.

If it was just a standard restructure without a pay cut, they wouldn't have to "work on it".

It likely involves some type of pay cut in exchange for some type of guarantee.

Maybe they guarantee him 4M for each of the next two seasons or something like that.

Sorry but no pay cut for Carr. i know it makes some of you mad, but no pay cut.

It doesn't say they are going to lower his salary. It says they are working to lower his cap number. That doesn't mean it will be a pay cut. It could mean a restructure that brings him down several million but guarantees more of his money.

You're off base here. A cut in compensation is what is being discussed here.

People need to get off this - he got toasted because we decided to use man coverage on CJ. Who the hell tries to go man over and over on CJ? That's play calling right there.

Why are you happy that Carr is getting overpaid again and again?

Because it's not my money. Carr is not the first or last player to be getting overpaid. and next year if they can get someone better, maybe then they can let him go. but not right now. this team can't afford to let Carr go. and Jerry knows it.

I expect the hold up is over guaranteed money. Specifically, I think Carr is likely looking for a guarantee for 2016. He'd likely slash his deal in half if we did that. I expect we are willing to do something like fully guarantee 2015 but would prefer a fully guaranteed after day X of the league year thing for 2016. I think the FO would really prefer that Mo becomes what we wanted and takes Carr's spot in 2016.
