But he isn’t worth $25M per year....if you don’t have a guy worth $25M per year then you better be actively trying to find him.

Extended Dak would be the worst thing this organization has done since firing Jimmy Johnson.

I'm with you there.

I would only extend him if a new HC and OC came in next year and fixed him. My argument is that I don't know that Dak in unfixable.

I just believe that Garrett/Linehan/Moore are not capable of fixing Dak or anyone else.

Dak may or may not be the answer, but we'll never know for sure under this current coaching staff. Signing him long term is begging for trouble.

So out of all of these good young QB's coming into the league over the last few years, we settle for Dak in the 4th round and then decide to make him the present and longterm starter.

Guess I really wouldn't expect anything else from Jerry Jones. It's going to be another long wasted decade to go along with the last 2.

The Dallas Cowboys woke up on Tuesday morning with a 3-5 record and seemingly a lot of soul-searching to do. As true as that is the world goes on and that means that Jerry Jones had one of his weekly appearances on 105.3 The Fan.

Jones addressed how the defense needs to play better, that Jason Garrett is aware of the team needing to improve, but he dropped a bit of a bomb whether intentionally or not. When talking about Dak Prescott, Jerry Jones literally said that Prescott was going to get extended.

Dak Prescott is eligible to be extended in the offseason and many once thought that would be when he got paid like a big-time NFL quarterback. Prescott hasn’t exactly played to those standards through eight games, and to be fair Jerry didn’t exactly say what the Cowboys would be paying him, but confirming that they would be extending the third-year quarterback is quite a vote of confidence.

I think this was a shot over the bow of Garrett and Linehan. Why not extend Dak? get him at a reasonable price, find a better coach to develop him and at least you have your back up.

This actually makes perfect sense... Extend the young guy because he hasn't really been given a fair chance for development at the NFL level. Jerry knows it. I know it...

Then bring in a vet with an arm and solid decision making skills. Teddy Bridgewater perhaps...

& last but certainly not least, get rid of the three stooges (Garrett, Linehan, Moore)...

That's the logical way forward.

There’s nothing about extending Dak that makes sense...just as there was nothing that made sense with trading a 1st rounder for Cooper.

But Jerry will do Jerry things...God love him

Nothing wrong with extending him for a few years with little to nothing guaranteed. If a new staff can get him to play at a higher level, so be it. It's not like we're gonna be able to replace him in the off-season. If he still sucks, we cut him without incurring a cap hit and draft his replacement.

Jerry Jones is not the only owner/GM to make this mistake. If a QB shows some good things, the bad gets overlooked to some extent or explained away because it is not properly diagnosed. The problem with properly diagnosing what a QB is doing badly is the multiplicity of factors. We "eliminated" one by bring in a No. 1 receiver. However, we still have the OL to blame, the lack of a Hall-of-Fame worthy tight end and, ultimately, the scheme/coaching.

It's hard to say how much exactly those things are a factor, but Prescott clearly doesn't read defenses well or get through his progressions quickly enough. Those issues that he has contribute to the inability of the line to block long enough, the receivers/tight ends to stay open and the play-calls, as bad as they might be, working better.

Because he is young, he can improve on his weaknesses some, but I'm not sure it will ever be enough to be more than a middle-of-the-pack QB who may not ever be able to repeat what we saw in 2016 when the conditions were ideal and defenses did not know how to attack him.

Well there's a lot of bad to try to over look on Dak.

Dak has been down this season i agree but he deserves the right for a chance with a coaching staff that actually know how to use him and develop him properly while calling plays to his strength.

At the moment we are the most predictable offense in the league and every opposing defense knows how to stop us as we are 1 dimensional rubbish.

You can have the best QB in the league but if the play calls are rubbish and if he has not got the Green light to audible out of terrible play calls by reading the defense you are doomed. Daks regression is all on the Garrett and Lineham and they need to go before a decision on Dak is made.

Dak has earned a chance while the others have not.

Way to early to cut him loose considering who we have calling plays and coaching the team and the big loser in all of this is the defense who are giving their all and playing great but cannot get any offensive support. :(

Worst case scenario about to be realized.

Waste three years on the Dak experiment instead of actually trying to obtain a franchise QB. Then double down and extend him marrying us to him for at least 3-4 more years.

Only Jerry could be this incompetent.

Let's just dig a ditch and as it becomes too deep, just keep throwing the dirt on top of your head. That's why this is.

Every QB that is drafted is an experiment and you think any bloke we draft is going to be better than Dak with the current coaching staff?

You think Mahomes would be this lethal as the QB of the Cowboys with Garrett and Lineham calling his plays?

At the end of the day you are a product of your own environment and currently ours is a waste disposal facility.

Glad you said backup, because I honestly don't think he can ever be "developed" into a starter by any coach/ Ever/ He's a backup at best.

To maintain the organization’s faith in its leadership
Here’s where true leadership shows itself. If you can handle a difficult situation or condition and keep things on an even keel, your organization will be more likely to follow you anywhere. If you fall apart when things don’t go smoothly, you’ll have less credibility as a leader in the future.

Those are great attributes for successful NFL Quarterbacks, it’s just that our crappy Qb actually neeeds to able to execute plays successfully before crowning him with those lofty little leadership intangibles.

It was a pleasant leadership soliloquy however and for that; we thank you
