News: Jerry Jones' QB plan starts with 4-5 year plan for Tony Romo

I think, actually hope, that Jerry is just upset that both Garrett and Stephen mentioned in their interviews that QB was a possibility with their first pick. Jerry felt the need to show that he is the boss and what others say doesn't matter, only what he says matter. Problem is that there are far too many who are skeptical of what drunk ole Jerry says anymore. He can't help himself to say stupid things anymore. I'm willing to bet the officials from other teams don't take anything Jerry says seriously, and deal more directly with Stephen.

I do think Jerry has a voice but the war room is more like a committee at this point. When the pick comes up, he very well may vote for Bosa or someone else but if enough people in the room want a QB, we will get a QB. Truthfully, I don't think he will put up much a fight. He remembers the years between Aikman and Romo as well as anyone.

We are.

Fact is we considered Manziel two years ago. We aren't wasting resources interviewing quarterback prospects of we truly felt it was a fact Romo would be here for 5 more years.

Despite the teams denial it is not intersted in Manziel..

I still do not believe it.

He has compounded his problems with the recent girlfriend arguement..

and it maybe true he is facing a fine or suspension should he play again.

But those would be easily affordable for a guy that might have to sit anyway if Romo doesn't go down as Jerrah want to believe.

Of course..if Manziel plays and plays well should the need arise..

Jerrah and the team look brilliant.

If the Cowboys would take a risk on Gregory because its a position of need..

if they want a guy like Rolando McClain after his suspension back for a position of need..

then getting Manziel is an easy fit.

If Romo does indeed play for another 5 years he'll be 41...alrighty then!

Add to that..

If Romo wins a SB in that time period..

that implies we are going to invest in him for 15 years to do that.

Is he serious?

That says everything any of us doubters needed to hear.

He's lost it.

"Jerry Jones on drafting a QB: If a player came in here and played behind Tony Romo 3-4 years, he'd get a Harvard degree in how to play QB."

These quotes almost make it seem like Jerry is thinking about a QB at 4 if you look at it from a different point of view. If we do decide to take a chance on Goff or Wentz, it is good to let the team and Romo know that he is their guy for the forseeable future.

If he truly believes this "four or five years" nonsense, this team, and its' fans, are screwed.

Honestly, I don't think Jerry even knows what coming out of his mouth after it's said, much less believing/remembering it.

I am not going to read all these post, but Jerry is beyond stupid if he thinks Romo will be playing for another 4-5 years. The loyalty to Romo is not worth the team being a complete failure. There has been 20 years of this one player away crap that Jerry believes and the results speak for themselves. This team is not capable of building a team based on long term goals and success. They plan from one season to the next without any consideration about the future.

Smoke screen or senility.

Pick your "s" words.

I'm hoping it's the former and not the latter. If he is looking for an impact player at #4 to help Romo, it has to be an offensive player. The best offensive player in this draft that can have an immediate impact is Elliott. If this is indeed what happens in April, Jerry has kissed the 2016 season goodbye; no matter how healthy Romo stays and how great Elliott can be, they will still stink on defense.

Now, while I would not be too disappointed with Elliott at #4, I would prefer Ramsey or Bosa if they choose not to go QB.

If Jerry seriously thinks Romo is going to play into his 40s...............wow, there are no words.

He did the same thing when preparing the Franchise for Aikman's departure..

He ignored the need to draft a replacement for Irvin, Smith, Novachek and Aikman.

The franchise imploded.

Its about to happen again.

We have lost our All Pro RB, our All Pro QB has undergone 3 operations in the last 2 years..

and our All Pro WR has undergone 2 operations in 12 months.

Dez never was what you could say was fast. Now my suspicion is that he will lose another step in his speed and that makes him very mortal going forward.

So we maybe needing help at WR soon, too.

Its not going to get better if you ask me especially if the leadership insists that LBers and DTs in the draft are going to get those lost 8 wins back.

Nope.

good point another thing to remember is JJOnes tends to speak deliberately and vaguely honest.
He has in the past if you look back at his comments and the actual picks made.
But who knows

Look at all the cry babies that want a QB @#4, no matter what the Front Office says, it's like children running a muck.

No, it tells me he is thinking about one later and then somehow they will learn enough by just watching Romo that they will be ready by the end of their rookie contract.

Romo did not get his development by watching Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson, Vinny Testaverde, Drew Henson and Drew Bledsoe.

He got it from Sean Payton and David Lee.

Now he has Scott Linehan and Wade Wilson.

We do not have the infrastructure in place to develop a QB that needs refinement.

The QBs this year set nothing on fire during their College Careers or at the combine or through the entire process. If there were even one single real Franchise QB in this Draft then maybe there is a point to all the whining, but there simply isn't a Franchise QB on the 2016 NFL Draft, GET OVER IT., there never was.

And people will be saying the exact same thing in 2017. And 2018 and 2019.

There aren't Franchise QBs period anymore. There is no "good year" on the horizon.

The college product at the position is going to be limited to a handful of prospects each and every year.

Hopefully that will change next year. Remember Troy had Shula as his OC until Norv came along.

  • Get your QB now
  • Watch JG implode this year
  • 2017 we turn things around

Any time you change regimes, the QB can be a casualty. You see it on a lot of teams that have QB issues that happen to change coaches.

New coach comes in, wants his "guy".

Much like the defensive players you want to advocate? None of them "set nothing on fire" either. But I'm sure 'the story' will be different about that...

At least you have the intelligence to see that. Kudos to you sir.

And that doesn't even take into consideration where this team will be drafting in those years. Unless they tank another season, they won't be anywhere close to this position again for years.
