Well, the truth is that we had three of those guys last year - Byron Jones, Randy Gregory, and La'el Collins. And it didn't help us in the wins and losses department.
And if I'm "gambling" on anyone, I'm doing it for the most coveted position in sports, the one that half of the league still doesn't have, and the one that costs a fortune, even if you're right.
Ask yourself about any of the other positions in the league:
Can I get a cornerback in free agency? Sure. Pass rusher? Costly, but yes. Linebackers, running backs, safeties, offensive line, receivers, you name it. If you have enough cap space, you can fill any need you have. Now, apply that to starting quarterback. Your money's no good here! It doesn't matter how much cap room a team has, they can't buy a starting quarterback.
Even quarterbacks like Cousins - where the jury is still out for some people - are getting franchise tagged for top money to prevent any chance of them leaving. The Daltons, Kaepernick's, and Tannehills of the world are getting $100 million despite still having question marks. Nothing shows how rare the position is more than moves like that!
That's a very true and reasonable position on things, no doubt about it.
