Jerry Jones: We've been thinking about drafting our QB of the future, and almost did in 2014

Hey..

The season isn't over and there is a lot to consider in a decision like this.

And since we don't know all the factors..

Jerrah should be vague.

Why would he indicated who he might like and where in the draft.?

Seriously..other teams would just use that to our disadvantage.

Let it be.

Nothing to be done right now.

I agree.

Had Jerry drafted Manziel and he didn't pan out at QB he could've used him as a drinking buddy.

Thank you Jerry.I think this means he won't repeat what he did with Manziel, he won't pass on a QB if he is high on our board.one of the top 3 QBs is fine with me.
I had a flashback to 1999. If Jones does draft a player from the top three-rated quarterbacks, I hope he picks a Donovan McNabb instead of an Akili Smith or Tim Couch.

He probably is, but how do we know Jerry is talking about Manziel? He could be talking about Carr or Bridgewater.

Again, he probably isn't.

Playing the Beatles, White Album and the Pink Floyd's, Dark Side of the Moon album backwards (simultaneously) is easier to understand than Jerry Jones.

I know you probably think jones is an idiot, but if you translate that as him thinking manziel is like roethlisberger...i dont know what to tell you. Roethlisberger fell to the middle of the round, thats the comparison. Hes built like an oversized linebacker, manziel is built like an average sized running back. Nothing like a prototype for anything other than a college offense.

This.

Jerry feels his desire to draft Manziel has been vindicated by how the season went. He is telling the others in the room (he was a committee of one) "I told you so."

I think we are in for another 2012 like offseason, where Jerry listens to only himself and relies on individuals outside the organization for advice.

Translation: I wanted Manziel two years ago to take over for Romo eventually. Manziel would've become a veteran capable of taking over for Romo when he got hurt.

Translation: Manziel fits my ideal of today's NFL quarterbacks like Roethlisberger and he was right there for the taking. However, Cleveland thought Weeden would fit their ideal quarterback solution and he didn't pan out for them.

Translation: As seen in previous drafts, first round quarterbacks do not come with guarantees even though I believe some first round quarterbacks succeed more often than those selected in other rounds.

Translation: The rest of my gang and I have been talking about Romo's successor a lot. I thought the opportunity of finding Romo's successor and Manziel's availability was a match in 2014. There were others discussing which player would be the best choice and suggesting alternatives other than Manziel but I'm not willing to start a media controversy at this time by divulging their names.

Translation: It's our responsibility to formulate the best solution to this problem. In fact, that's my main responsibility as general manager. My job requires the necessary foresight in discovering future roster solutions right now. I saw Manziel as the quarterback solution two years ago and did not draft him.

Impressive. That might be the best translation I've seen since Mrs. Cleaver did her thing.

I don't believe for one second Jerry feels his desire to draft Manziel has been vindicated due to the way Manziel has performed on the field and with the off the field issues he's been through. Jerry avoided a huge PR nightmare by not drafting Manziel with him having to go through rehab.

The player Jerry drafted Zach Martin became the Cowboys first rookie in 45 years to be named All Pro. He drafted an excellent player and passed on one who may end up being another Cleveland Browns casualty.

Everybody name your top three. Cause we're going own that road...thank Heavens

Just stop teasing us JJ and get it done. We need a reason to have hope for the future rather than this hopeless malaise feeling.

I know it's going to tick a few fans off, but that win versus Washington (meaningless IMO) will be looming pretty big come draft time.

Having to take a QB in the first round is nothing to be thankful for especially in a draft that doesn't appear to be a strong QB draft. Having to take a QB with your first pick just to try and find a quality backup isn't the best thing for the Cowboys with all the needs they have. With Romo suffering injuries every season they may have to take a QB high but they really need their first pick to be on the field not carrying a clipboard.

Again, Flaaco, Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Brees, Wilson, etc. all fell for one reason or another (who knows, perhaps many teams also considered them "not that strong"), so if, in this "weak QB draft," we can hit similarly to them, I'll be just fine.
