Jerry Jones: Zeke was (picked) too high for us"

This was always obvious.

well it only took the jones boys 8 years to realize it was a mistake lol. :omg: better late than never?

The too high, is using a 4th overall on a RB, also it was one of the rare times dallas had a pick that high.
4th overall should be used on a qb or lineman as a general rule.

They repeated this error taking lamb at 10th overall ?

you can usually get good wr and rb at a lower level in the first round.
Atlanta used a high pick to get that TE, and that was stupid too.
I dont think you take a corner that high either. rarely works out good for the team.

As for this draft being 26 overall , and position is ok, and the better lineman and qb's will be off the board.
So imo a rb would be ok , if he is good and team needs him.

I like gibbs better than bijan, but either one is ok at 26, depends on who else drops, and what team needs are, and also
what the team plan is for coming season.
If mike really wants to run more, then a rb at 26 might be a good idea.

He was part of the reason. He was also part of the reason we didnt win more the last 3 years. Zeke rarely showed up in big games or playoffs.

Sorry, ZEke wasnt Emmitt. Laughable comparison. Emmitt was also around 20, not 4.
17th overall 1st round 1990 NFL Draft.

Jerry never said Zeke was "picked to high for us." What he said was "Zeke was too high for us." The reporter added "picked", assuming that is what Jerry meant. I watched the press conference.

My interpretation was "Zeke (salary) was too high for us" because the context of the comment was Jerry was talking about how some young players were going to need to step up because the salary cap prevented paying everyone a high salary.

did jerry admit he made a mistake? Sounds like it to me...we should all be happy that he is seeing things like that and correcting how he is thinking about things going forward...
I think Jerry is preparing everyone for justifying taking a RB with the 26th pick.

That is how I heard it as well.

I’ve watched the clip being referenced here. Jerry doesn’t say the word “picked”. And that’s because he’s not referencing where he was drafted. The “too high” comment is in reference to his salary and cap hit being too high.

If anything, it makes me wonder if they don’t bring him back at a far lower price after the draft.

What was the discussion right before he made that comment? Were they talking about picking TBs in the first round?
Don't recall off the top of my head, but I remember Jerry commenting that Zeke is still an exceptional player but was too high for us.

He also mentioned that they made tough decision to let Schultz leave even though they think highly of him, saying you can only pay so many people.

And I disagree that Zeke is even above average now. I think he is a progress stopper at this point.

I think this is a real possibility

And if we Picked Jalen at 4 yall wouldve had a meltdown the first time he allowed a reception

They’re clearly still much higher on his abilities than anyone else.
The one thing i dont know is if he comes back at say 2 mill base does that erase the dead cap for releasing him...again if we save 4 mill and use him for blocking and goaline i might be ok with it.

I’m in the minority, but I think he could still be a solid contributor in a supporting role. And I’d prefer to see a transition and passing of the torch rather than the guy being callously dismissed and thrown out like trash.

A Pollard-Elliott-Gibbs trio sets us up well in my mind for both the present and future.

Because he knew which interpretation would get more traction/clicks/likes. He inserted (picked) and everyone ran with it. This thread is just one example.
Yes the media has agendas as well as some posters. They change one word to meet their narrative and it snowballs.
Because of the dislike for Jerry and Zeke this thread will get to 20 pages soon.
At least the draft is here to take over subject matter on page one. Until someone tries to bump this back up.
