I dont really buy the distraction thing, he wasnt a distraction last year.
players dont buy into the media stuff, they call it noise and they ignore it.

It becomes a distraction when things go wrong, though. We've seen that time and time again with this team.

I can only hope Jerry shocks the world and let's Romo compete for the job... The initial plan was a good one, keep Romo as our starter, pray he stays healthy, but draft a QB to be groomed as a legit backup and hopefully our future franchise QB... We got lucky by landing Dak and the plan worked out better than we could have ever dreamed, only problem, it was working too good... It worked so good that we forgot what the plan was to begin with, and it cost us last season when we pissed away the best team we've fielded in the better part of a decade! Now we have the best QB scenario in the NFL over the next 2-3 seasons, and we're about to piss that away too!

We're only looking at this from the Romo perspective. Yes, Romo wins any camp "competition" with Dak, hands down. But would that be fair to Prescott after what he accomplished last year? The Cowboys have to move forward with Prescott and the fair thing to do with Romo is send him someplace he can play.

If Romo was five years younger; I'd say keep him. But it's time to move on.

That makes absolutely no sense. I'm not saying that's not entirely accurate but it is lunacy if accurate.

Actually there are many that think that cutting Romo is better than him being a backup here. I vehemently oppose that thought process.

If Romo stays its because hes planning on starting. Imho there is NO chance Romo would stay in a back up role. Hes too much of a competitor to sit.

I honestly think the Patriots want to keep Garropolo to eventually replace Tom Brady. I can't see Jacoby Brissett as the Pats' QB of the future.
the patriots are working on a extension for brady. i can see him playing atleast 3-4 more yrs.

Actually, I am in Dak's camp. He brings the scrambling, ability to QB sneak it with out getting killed, etc....... Romo has plenty of positives as well....Sadly they both have two big of egos to make it work to keep both of them.

I don't see big egos, I see big competitors. Both want and deserve a chance to start. There's only one job opening here and it's my opinion it's in the Cowboys' best interests to keep developing the kid.

Romo and Dak could co-exist as long as things are going good, like last year. However.............

What if Dak has a sophomore slump, we have seen that many times where a rookie has a monster season and then struggles in his second year after everybody has tape on him and can study him over the summer?

Just go with this for a second before you crap on this and say its not happening. Lets say Dak struggles to start the season and we are sitting at 1-3 after the first quarter of the season. Now imagine that while sitting at 1-3 we have a healthy Romo sitting on the bench playing Pokémon Go, eating nachos, texting his wife, calling his agent to make sure his check for $14 million cleared, ect...

What do you think the fans and the media are going to be discussing 24/7? That maybe Romo needs to be inserted back into the lineup since Dak is in a slump? Maybe the fans in the stadium start chanting "we want Romo". Maybe the media starts asking players if Romo needs to be back in the lineup, what are they going to say? What if 1-3 turns into 1-4, does their answers start to change?

Now, do you guys think this would be a good situation for the team?

Yes, if they were 1 and 3. They would put Romo in. If they were 1 and 3 and Romo was gone they would just suck and people would say why did they let Romo go?

LOL. Some of you are scared to death that Romo will stay and eventually win back his position.
I'm happy they stuck with Dak last year but wouldn't mind the competition and if Romo won the team wins, Dak get another year or two to learn from a great. If Dak wins he team wins as they'll have the best back up in the league. I'm Goode either way.

Everybody should check out Jerry's interview on Dallascowboys.com. The decision has not been made. There is a chance that they do keep him.

He is not staying. He know how to work the media and this board.
It looks like he could stay to me. I don't see them releasing him. There is too much of a qb shortage. It would take a trade for them to let him go.

I'm not going to turn this into a Romo vs Dak debate, but if you are the Cowboys, you have to look at this thing from several angles. We got basically 3 scenarios that could play out and 2 of the 3 involve Romo.

Scenario 1.....Dak continues to improve next year and earns his second probowl bid.

Scenario 2.....Dak gets hurt during the season

Scenario 3.....Dak has a sophomore slump and struggles as teams studied him all summer, especially division rivals.

Having Romo on the team would be a tremendous benefit in both scenarios 2 and 3. So maybe the team is starting to wonder maybe handing Romo over to a contender for very little compensation is not the way to go here. Maybe they are thinking Romo is worth more to the team than a 3rd round draft pick.

Just saying maybe the decision to get rid of Romo is not as cut and dry as many on this board seem to think...........just saying.

We agree. If Romo stays, I think Jerry will have made a decision that allows some competition for starting QB next season. The main thing is Jerry and Tony will make this decision and
you will not hear about it on some obscure website from someone who is dreaming up a potential scenario. Jerry is cagy but, normally he does not lie on a televised broadcast.

I think in the end they both agree if nothing is o be had in a trade and Romo agrees to stay out of NFC East JJones will release Romo.
