As a huge Romo fan, him staying would just cause distractions. I mean, look at the divide in this forum throughout the season with all those constant "Romo vs. Dak" arguments and even the media ate up all that stuff. It seems everyone forgets we're all Cowboys fans and we want what's best for the team. Sure, we all have different opinions on what's best for the team, but quarterback is certainly a position which is not a problem. Having some sort of competition or Tony staying as a backup is not the right thing for the team. We need to give Romo the right to compete somewhere else and move forward with Dak. In my opinion, that's the right decision.

Romo and Dak could co-exist as long as things are going good, like last year. However.............

What if Dak has a sophomore slump, we have seen that many times where a rookie has a monster season and then struggles in his second year after everybody has tape on him and can study him over the summer?

Just go with this for a second before you crap on this and say its not happening. Lets say Dak struggles to start the season and we are sitting at 1-3 after the first quarter of the season. Now imagine that while sitting at 1-3 we have a healthy Romo sitting on the bench playing Pokémon Go, eating nachos, texting his wife, calling his agent to make sure his check for $14 million cleared, ect...

What do you think the fans and the media are going to be discussing 24/7? That maybe Romo needs to be inserted back into the lineup since Dak is in a slump? Maybe the fans in the stadium start chanting "we want Romo". Maybe the media starts asking players if Romo needs to be back in the lineup, what are they going to say? What if 1-3 turns into 1-4, does their answers start to change?

Now, do you guys think this would be a good situation for the team?

A sophomore slump is always possible but the problem is Romo isn't going to want to stick around to find out if Dak is going to have a slump giving him an opportunity to play. Romo wants to enter the season as the starter or he's not going to want to be here. We have to enter the season with a QB who's fully entrenched as the starter. We can't afford to have a QB controversy that leads to distractions. This is why Romo held the press conference during the season to eliminate all the speculation so there wouldn't be any distractions. Romo and Dak won't be able to coexist because Dak earned the right to start after the season he had and Romo wants his job back. Neither QB is going to be happy standing on the sidelines especially Romo whose clock is ticking fast on his career. A backup QB has to understand their role and accept it or it could lead to a problem.

We have to put all our faith in Dak, we can't have a situation where he has an off game and everyone is asking about playing Romo. That would cause a distraction! We saw that happening this past season which is another reason the team had Romo hold the press conference to put an end to all the speculation. We can't have FANS screaming for Romo every time Dak throws a couple of bad passes or we have a drive stall. Allowing Romo to move on to another team eliminates any chances of a QB divide and distractions that a situation like that could bring. We have to put all our faith in Dak and show confidence that this is his team. He doesn't need Romo looking over his shoulder all season.

Jerry wouldn't talk about if any teams had contacted the Cowboys about Tony though if you watched his expression you could
see that someone or at least one team has probably talked to Jerry about the parameters of acquiring Tony in a trade. My guess,
if a team that Tony would play for makes a reasonable offer a trade could happen. If not, I think Tony will be given his release
within 3 weeks. The team is not going all season with this problem hanging over the spring work.

What are the pros that out weigh the cons?

The only con with keeping Romo is he gets hurt.
There's also a con with Dak, he comes back to earth/regress
Pro with Dak is he improves
Pro with Romo is he stays healthy and the offense improves.

If Dak regressed because Romo is here we don't need Dak. That is a really weak argument. You want competition on your roster. It pushes players to get better.

Romo would be fine with staying with the team for his salary that he is going to make this year. I think that they will have a deal this year that he either stays or he is traded to Denver or Houston. I don't see any problem with him staying at all.

You need to listen to what Jerry said again, Stash. He said that there were 3 distinct ways the situation could go and one of them was Tony's outright release.

If Jerry said that it has to be one of the most idiotic things he could say. It is like telling everyone at the poker table what your hand is.

He's not going to be fine staying as the backup regardless how much he's being paid. He's not going to stand around on the sidelines another year just to collect a paycheck. He wants to play and have an opportunity to win a championship.

Yes, he will. Every backup has a chance to play over a 19 game season.

Who cares what he wants to do? Do you think every player on the Cowboys roster wants the same thing that the organization does? Are we to accommodate them too?

You do understand that there is a qb shortage? You do understand about supply and demand?

No, he won't he's wants to start and isn't going to stand around on the sidelines another year in the event Dak gets injured.

I suspect that his family is happy staying where they are at 14 million.

We went without a real QB after Aikman for many years and these guys want to give one away. That is so ******* stupid I cannot even fathom the argument being made.

It would be different if Romos contract was paying him$24 million this year. It's a very manageable number.

Quite honestly Romo and the team should BOTH be happy about that. If we believe we are contenders we should not let go of Romo unless the offer blows our socks off.

Listen to Garrett's combine press conference he said the Cowboys are going to do what's in the best interest of the team AND Tony. You don't hear coaches say that but Romo isn't just another player. Jerry plans on accommodating him because he has a lot of respect for him and he knows time is running out on Romo and he wants to play. He's not going to hold Romo hostage when he can still play and wants to play.
