I know this sounds bad, but if I was looking for a trade or even to sign a free agent, I wouldn't want to sound desperate either. If another teams thinks the Cowboys are desperate, they will jack up the prices of any trade bait. Free agents will say no to the first offer.

If it were me, I would say, "We'll keep our eyes open to players who are available, but if no one comes along we are happy with the guys on our roster" even if I was having daily panic attacks over the situation.

I posted months ago that the Joneses are tired of spending big money on players and not see it pay dividends. They made up their minds after moving on from several key players that they’re going to go with what they have this season even if it leads to a disaster. Jerry knew heading into last season that was going to be the best shot the Cowboys had at a Super Bowl. I won’t go as far as to say he’s thrown in the towel for this season but it’s pretty close.

I don’t know that they have thrown in the towel, but I suspect that they have determined that they are not borrowing from future cap room or giving up future draft picks to improve this current team.
