Jerry sees McCarthy and Zimmer as a package deal

I'd actually like to see Zimm keep building on his work here.

But I also want the next HC to pick his own staff without interference from Jerry. Like you say though, it's just not going to happen that way.
I took a look at all the coaches and coordinators Jerry has hired since Jimmy last week..... see if there are some pattern(s). From what can tell, with every new HC, he ALWAYS retains or forces either the in-house DC or OC on the new coach. The new coach tends to have some flexibility in hiring staff for whichever coordinator he controls. For example.......he fires McCarthy and keeps Zimm. He will allow the new head coach to pick his own OFFENSIVE staff. As you can see he's already sending signals Zimm isn't going anywhere.

I'm sticking with what I have said before........if not MM, it will be Kellen Moore and Zimm. Kellen will be allowed to bring his own OC.

Still think when we lose to the Eagles and probably Washington (plus maybe even Tampa), he'll be gone and everyone panicking about this can calm down.

I do hope MM does well enough to get a job somewhere else where the owner doesn't sign his washed personal favorites to start at RB and flush 4th round picks on worthless players.

This is very accurate. I think it has its pro and cons but if this is how he navigates it, I would hope to see someone like a Ben Johnson be the HC definitely not KM. No matter who the new HC is, if he is offensive minded, it allows the defense to have stability, consistency and some veteran coaching presence and eases the transition for the HC. But you might get a young coach who isnt open to that and wants to do what is in his vision and I wouldnt be mad at that either. Zimm has had some up and downs before injuries and after but I feel like you start to see his team gell more and what it could be without some of his players available. I definitely wouldnt be opposed to bringing him back but MM has to go.

I'm past worrying about the coaches. The gorilla in the room that trumps everything else is personnel management and the unbalanced teams Jerry assembles... and Jerry ain't going anywhere. Fix the OL and the defense and maybe MM can succeed, or at least we'll have a clearer understanding of MM the coach, right now we just know he can't succeed with an unbalanced team,,,, like everybody else.

Exactly right, which is why he would never hire him. I get the impression this is sorted out during the interview process. In other words, once his mind is made up about retaining a particular coordinator, he will only interview/consider candidates willing to work will the current staff on that side of the ball.

It's looking like our best case scenario would be hiring a OC as it looks like Jerry is adamant wanting MM/Zimmer back. This is a huge mistake in my opinion.
Zimm, I agree but not so much on MM. MM is a free agent.......he could have other options besides the Cowboys. IMO, he would be an excellent fit for the Jags, Jets and Bears ( three 12-5 seasons means a hell of a lot to a few teams )

I wont debate that.. makes sense but also is part of the reason we dont have a good football team bc of this type of in the box thinking. We keep trying to find guys that fit their type-old retreads, with previous history, and are easy to finesse (except Garrett when it comes to retread/previous HC history) when the trend of teams having success and winning are doing the opposite.

Tough call, but honestly other than MM, Moore or Zimmer who is it going to be?

Jerry’s ego holds back this franchise more than ever….well, on the field anyway.

He isn’t going to win “his way,” but he is going to literally die trying. 93 year old Jerry holding court for the media ought to be a lot of fun.

Actually now that I think about it, didn't he force Zimm on Parcells?

Thats the problem. You only have Vrabel who fits their mold, the rest is younger coordinators BUT its a reason the team feels so outdated esp on offense, bc we lack new innovation, creativity and younger perspective bc their rather have retreads. I hoped the way things were shaping out with Bill at UNC, if MM contract expired -maybe we would look to change our perspective and trend of how who we hired.

Zimm still had a couple of years left on his contract. Parcell agreed to keep him on and help him with 3-4. So force is probably a bit strong but convincer is closer.
