Good.

I still feel bad for Maher. Great season, those awesome 60+ yard field goals… and then his career is just absolutely obliterated over the course of a few minutes.

His career has to be over, right? Who else is going to sign the guy that missed 4 easy field goals in the playoffs?
Lol, he made his last 2 field goals and has 60 yard range. He would have to totally lose it to not make a team.

Maher contract expired so I guess they will just not resign him.

Maybe use a late round pick on a kicker, any good ones in the draft?

Nah I think you're missing the point. Has nothing to do with identifying a problem, and everything to do with not over simplifying the solution. Maher had a 90% FG percentage and a 94% XP percentage with 9 kicks made over 50 yards. That's either elite category or next tier down. I fully understand there is a trust issue after the Tampa game, but this narrative that you just change kickers and get better results is ridiculous as really reliable NFL kickers are actually somewhat tough to come by.

If a Matt Gay actually hits the free agent market I'm first in line to root on Jerry to go after the guy. If you miss out on the top free agents (or they dont even hit free agency) you may very well have to settle for a Joey Slye or Greg Zuerlein who....well.....be careful what you ask for.
Nope. If you’re having to use stats then you may be missing the point. Remember how everyone keeps touting Dak’s awesome stats (most people ignored they were from beating a lot of bad teams). So Dak has awesome stats and faces a real defense against San Fran and he crumbles. Kellen Moore’s offense has some great stats the last 2 years. He goes up against San Fran and it falls apart. It loses Pollard and can’t adjust. Many vids after the game dissected his poor play design and play calling. Stats mean nothing. So let’s keep Maher based on his great stats and take a chance he screws us in the playoffs again next year. He has a history: he can play great during the season and without warning misses easy kicks in the most important games. That’s your justification for bringing him back. Jerry got this right.

We can agree to disagree here and that's perfectly fine. I think under your logic here the guy we need to move on from is Dak. If any position holds up to the stats it has to be kickers, right? They are pretty much good or bad based on their own merits. Other positions on the field are effected by scheme and the other 10 players. With kicking you may get an occasional block or an occasional bad snap/hold, but 95% of the time their stats are directly tied to their performance alone.

And keep in mind too I'm not advocating to keep Maher, I'm just saying the solution can't be worse than the problem which is a possibility at this point if you move on blindly. Odds are most kickers that get drafted this year wont hit 90+ percentage on FGs this year. Even less likely they do it with the distance of Maher....of course odds are pretty good they wont miss 4 of 5 on XPs in round one of the playoffs too.

Way to go out on a limb, Mr.GM. Pathetic......

"Yah. We're getting new blocking sleds, too."

Good going, Jerry! Jeez, what an astute observation! Since Maher can't even kick extra points in a playoff game, maybe it's time! Dah!

Maher was Money this year with fg’s, two vs the Niners. Had one bad horrible day with extra points. Bring him back.
