Reading this interview with the New York Daily News, Jerry sounds like a complete fool in my opinion.

No doubt.

As usual, Jerry completely undermines the coaches, and creates unnecessary distractions.

Basically, he wants Dak to get injured and/or play poorly so his favorite player, Mr. Romo can get on the field.
Absolutely, a ridiculous comment by a GM or owner.
Embarrassing.

Read this today and csme straight here to see if anyone posted about it. Guy is a complete moron

"I think Romo is going to get his opportunity," Jones said. "I don't want it to happen. But I think he may get his opportunity to get us a Super Bowl. While that's a mixed bag when I think about it — that means you don't have Dak out there — but it means, what a story, one for the ages, if he'd step in there and this year help us win a Super Bowl on the field with his skill. That can happen here. We're not talking about a bus driver out there. We're talking about a guy who can go out there and move our team."

"WHAT A STORY, ONE FOR THE AGES."...idiot

First off jinx. Second off it's like he wants Dak to go down so it would make a cooler story. It's already cool you babbling sot.

It has gotten disturbing at this point. I'll say it again, as much as I respect what Tony has done for this team, I cannot weight for him to no longer be on it. It's the only way for some fans and the team to fully move on.

This has gotten to the point where it's like when VHS tapes had to finally be discontinued to for people to move on even though it was 2008...

Jerry is been Jerry, he loves the hype and the media is eating it up. Pretty much Jerry is saying yes he wants Romo to contribute and nothing is wrong with that. I'm pretty sure Stephan Jones met with the players especially Dak and told Dak that His father is getting up their in age and he might say some things but don't listen because Dak is the future and the present.

This quote does require a little interpretation of the Jerryspeak but not a lot. The key part is "that means you don't have Dak out there." He is, of course, referring to the possibility of his starting quarterback succumbing to injury during this Super Bowl run. That said, here we go:
Jerry Jones said:
I think Romo is going to get his opportunity
Translation: "I think Romo will play if Prescott gets injured."
Jerry Jones said:
I don't want it to happen
Translation: "I don't want Prescott getting hurt."
Jerry Jones said:
But I think he may get his opportunity to get us a Super Bowl.
Translation: "We have a good chance of winning the Super Bowl if Romo is forced to step back into the starting lineup."
Jerry Jones said:
While that's a mixed bag when I think about it — that means you don't have Dak out there — but it means, what a story, one for the ages, if he'd step in there and this year help us win a Super Bowl on the field with his skill
Translation: "Romo has the skills necessary to help our team win a Super Bowl. While it would be sad to see Prescott sidelined after the great year he has had, I will be happy that our team has a good chance of advancing all the way to a championship with Romo. It would be a storybook ending that began with our starting quarterback falling to injury, reducing our hopes of a successful season, only to be replaced by a rookie quarterback who set the league on fire and fell to injury also but was replaced by HIS backup who has endured all these years to help our franchise win the Super Bowl."
Jerry Jones said:

Translation: "Romo is a franchise quarterback himself."
Jerry Jones said:

Translation: "Romo can operate our offense successfully."

It's a little jumbled but he isn't saying anything wrong or unnecessary in this case also.

Nah, this goes well beyond the usual Jerry being Jerry, BS. This is crap that flat out should not be said nor should a GM even be thinking about.

What about him talking about Romo being back next year and competing with Dak for the starting job? Who the heck says that when a team is 11-1 and looking to make a Super Bowl run?

He should just keep his mouth shut about his inner desires to give Romo an Elway type ending to his career.

"Because of where we are, we can afford it," Jones said.

No team can afford two big-money quarterbacks. But with Prescott not yet able to cash in, Jones said he thinks it could make more sense to allocate the resources to Romo, even if he's the backup, than to a pass rusher in free agency.

"Unorthodox?" Jones said. "Absolutely."

Jones said, "my intention" is for Romo to be back in Dallas next year.

When did I miss that steaming pile of a comment? If that was said, the situation is even more troubling than I thought.

He said Romo wouldn't accept coming back and remaining a back up but he would compete. I am not sure how else to take that comment, other than him and Dak competing next year if Romo returns.

Oh well if that's what he said, that sounds completely different.

He wants to keep two franchise quarterbacks on his team. It doesn't mean that he will. Jones wants to own the world. He won't. Same thing.

Jerry Jones.

Should he shut his mouth? Sure. Will he shut his mouth? Is that really a question after nearly three decades of countless examples of him rambling off at the mouth?

Getting back to the topic though, here's the only thing relevant in the article concerning Jones' thoughts about Romo after this season:
"I think Tony is going to compete. He will never accept it,"
Translation: "Romo will fight for the starting position if I can convince him to stay. I do think Romo doesn't want to put himself in that situation."

It's typical Jones double talk but it's pretty simple.

He talks about "convincing" Romo to stay rather than leaving for a chance to start:

"I do," he said. "I think if I ask Tony to go with us on that and let's try to win a championship, I think, yes, he will."

Ask? Really?

Say Prescott wins a Super Bowl. Just suppose.

That means this man is still going to "ask" Romo to stay and compete?

He would actually expect his SB winning QB and future of the franchise to have to compete for his job?

Yep. It's still Jerry Jones. The man always wants the best of both worlds in every situation and truly believes he can have anything he wants.

If he dangles the job in front of Romo, he does get his way. He already has dismissed the idea that he can't afford to keep him.

Sounds to me, he's already opened up for a QB competition based on how convincing he is in getting Romo to stay. The red carpet is out.

And if Jerry said "I don't see Romo playing another down here", there would be a 40 page thread saying he was an idiot for destroying the teams bargaining position for a trade.
Yep.

Maybe Jerry Jones is just speaking out of his ***, but there is also good reason for Jerry to keep pumping up Romo and telling the media how much he thinks Romo can lead this team. What's the best way to increase trade value of Romo this offseason? Make it seem like they are willing to keep him to compete with Dak, and that will make teams willing to give up a higher draft pick. If everyone believes that there is no way Dallas keeps Romo past this year, then Dallas has no leverage in trade talks, unless there are a lot of suitors. Jimmy Johnson did the same thing with Steve Walsh in the 90's.

The red carpet is a door mat. Jones isn't any where near the overlord/overseer of years past. Actually, he pays heed to his staff.

Prescott is the choice endorsed by both him and his staff for the franchise's future. The only thing that will change that endorsement will be Romo winning back the job. That eventuality totally hinges upon Jones pulling off a miracle of keeping Romo on the roster. The odds aren't favorable in that aspect.
