He was a great one and such a class guyAs far as I’m concerned, no one will ever surpass Walter. Sweetness, but I totally agree with you. RIP
Leroy Kelly and the rest of the Browns team did a number on the Cowboys in consecutive divisional round playoff games in 1968 and 1969 ----- after Dallas pummeled Cleveland in a 1967 divisional round game. The Browns had three of the best RBs ever in succession: Ernie Davis - from Syracuse who died so very early - after his rookie year?. Then Jim Brown then Leroy Kelly right after that. I was lucky to watch Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly a lot - they put the hurt on Coach Landry and us fans. It is hard to express just how dominating the RBs were back then. RIP Jim you lived a great life.
A different time.I was fortunate enough to grow up with him. And saw him play the Cowboys at the Cotton Bowl.
Unfortunately for him playing in the NFL in that era wasn’t as charasmatic as athletics like him now. And why he left he league early.
That is one outstanding photograph.
When I was like 8 years old I luved watching the juice run. It was a thing of beauty. Him and the QB was Joe Ferguson I think . JF gets forgotten btw., Dude was damn good. I put him in their with Steve Bartkowski. My Uncle was in the military with Steve. Friends with him. If not for a shortened career by OJ and the off field stuff we wont mention here, I think He might be very worthy to have a debate over.I could put OJ up there in place of Barry.
Front row full of GOATs. Back row I see Packers Willie Davis and former Cowboy exec John Wooten.Yes, he was one of the early Civil Rights leaders along with other great athletes like Bill Russell , Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Muhammad Ali.
I'd add Deion Sanders to that list. I understand people don't like his personality, but he's undeniable a legend of all time.I have Jim Brown, Jerry Rice, and Tom Brady, in no particular order, as the NFL's top 3 greatest players of all time. Maybe Don Hutson as 4th between those 3 guys.
The Golden Age of NFL Running Backs (see what I did there) started in the 1950s:He was THE man. He was the best RB of all time IMHO. Look at some of those old tapes of the guy. Gale Sayers, Walter Payton, Earl Campbell, OJ were all good but Brown was better. Emmett and Tony Dorsett were my heroes and still are but Brown was better. RIP great one!!
Same thing my father used to say.My late father always said, "There was no greater football player than Jim Brown - he was the best ever."
Apparently he was an amazing lacrosse player as well.I agree. He was a man amongst children when he toted the ball.
The guy was high IQ on and off the field. Very smart. I mean heck, he could actually act and did it well. Not like a meat head. The Dirty Dozen was great with him. I thought he never really got the credit he had earned for his acting skills.Apparently he was an amazing lacrosse player as well.
