I wish that too.
Then maybe the comments like ..... "Tony Romo is never gonna be any more than a good quarterback .... get used to it" ..... would stop.
Nobody, including me, knows how Tony is gonna turn out.
I think that was something i wrote. And i think the way you react is a good example of what i stated before. Your read the statement but you didn't understand it. And i think you didn't understand because you wanted it to be a statement against Romo. Not because you couldn't understand intellecutal wise.
You took this statement out of context. The intension was to show that the talent with that Romo has been labeld when he came into the league (or better played his first games) was in my opionon just plain wrong. How can i say that ? Because i watched him play the last few years.
Now people who are in love with Romo still judge him by his labled talent not the talent that he really has. That brings disappointment with it because people have higher expectiations. But those expectations are not fair toward Romo.
What i am trying to say is that if people would accept that Romo hasn't all the talent of the world their expectations would go down. And therefor - and that was my intention - the criticism against Romo and the preassure that is laid on his shoulders because of those expectations.
Now how can i say that Romo will never be more then a good QB ? You are right when you say that nobody can forsee the future. But everybody can judge situations by their experience. And my experience says that the way Romo played and the way he acted now after (or for) 2 1/2 years starting in this league this is what we will get from Romo in the future. And to me in those 2 1/2 years he never was a great QB. He showed glimpses that he can play great but - and that is what counts - he isn't able to do it on a regular basis. But only that will make you a real great QB.
So to me Romo showed me that he is a good QB. And that's OK with me as long as we don't find someone better at that position.
So maybe now you understand that my posting - even if it was a one from the head and not from the heart - was more pro Romo then against him.
Oh and by the way. That thumb rule of watching a player play for about 3 years and then knowing what you get from him in the future isn't somthing i invented. That is something Bill Parcells uses and i think it's a good way of "forseeing the future".
